Arcane Odyssey - Small November Update Patch Notes

A small update for Arcane Odyssey has been released! This post goes over the major additions and fixes in the update, but if you want to view all of the smaller changes, they can be found under the Patch Notes section of the game’s Trello board:

Summary

Patch Notes p1
Patch Notes p2
Patch Notes p3

Additions/Changes

  • Added new Dark Sea island biome types:

    • Overhang
    • Mushroom Forest
    • Ruins
    • Metal Forest
    • Poison Forest
    • Coral Field
    • Crystal Field
  • Added 33 new structures that can spawn on Dark Sea islands, all built by HailFirz.

  • Added an active servers list to the titlescreen.

    • Each server now has a randomly generated name and color associated with it, which can be viewed in the Menu while in-game.
    • The servers list displays the servers’ names, regions, place (Bronze Sea), and current player count. You can sort the servers by name, region, or player count, and teleport into a server of your choice.
    • Server regions shown on the list and in-game are mostly inaccurate at this time due to Roblox limitation. (There is no Roblox API to retrieve the server’s region, so we are forced to use inaccurate third party methods to get the region)
  • Added the Sunken Warrior armor set obtainable at Level 100+, which includes new the Sunken Staff.

  • Deckhand overhaul:

    • Deckhands now display in the Shipyard UI, and can be hovered to view their stats and other information.

    • All traveler NPCs (unhired deckhands that spawn in towns) now spawn at Rookie tier and Level 20-30.

    • Deckhands leveling up is now longer passive, and instead they gain levels when you sink a ship. The amount of levels they gain is based on the ship’s level compared to your own, and they can gain as many as 10 levels per ship sunk.

    • Deckhands now tell you when they are ready to improve their skills and will have a “!” over their head when they can. They can be upgraded another tier every 25 levels. (So a deckhand cannot be upgraded to tier 2 until they are Level 50+ for example)

    • Deckhands no longer require renown to be upgraded, and instead cost galleons and multiple of a rare-tier gem. The amount of gems and galleons required are dependent on the upgrade tier, and the specific gem type needed can be any rare-tier gem besides diamond.

    • Adept+ Deckhands can now prompt you saying that they want to focus on a specific skillset to better help around the ship, allowing you to choose a profession for them. The deckhand profession options for this update are:

      • Navigator - Study the winds, weather, and sea to better assist in ship navigation.
      • Shipbuilder - Study methods of repair to better assist in keeping the ship afloat.
      • Chef - Study the culinary arts to supply the captain and crew with cooked meals.
      • Cannoneer - Study ship weaponry to improve the ship’s power in naval combat.
      • Merchant - Study the economy and trades to sell random goods to the captain and crew.
      • Enchanter - Study the art of enchanting to give the ship and crew temporary boosts.
      • After choosing a profession, their profession will show up when speaking to them, which also displays its tier and what the current tier’s ability does. (None of the abilities are added yet but the descriptions for them in-game are accurate to what they will be)
      • You can only have 1 type of profession per deckhand. (Meaning you cannot have 2 navigators for example)
      • Professions give the deckhands an ability which is either passive (such as the chef), or an ability that you can activate while sailing your ship.
      • They will prompt you when they are ready to upgrade their profession, which requires a certain amount of 2 different items. The amount required depends on their profession tier, and the items required depend on their profession. When upgraded, the effects of their profession ability improve.
    • You can now gift items to your deckhands to increase their loyalty to you. They will only accept items that are similar to their “style” (Ex: a knight will like metal armors and helmets, while a samurai will like straw hats and samurai pants and such)

      • Items they don’t like will be rejected and not taken from the player.
      • The amount of loyalty given by the gift depends on the item’s galleon value.
      • Deckhand loyalty tier will unlock other features. The tiers are:
        • Low
        • Medium
        • Great
        • Devoted
        • Dedicated
    • When a deckhand’s loyalty is Great or higher, you now get additional dialog options.

      • This lets you change their appearance style, which displays a list of all the options and lets you select a new style for that deckhand, which they will begin using when you next dock/redock your ship.
      • Appearance sets are the style of items they wear, like how some deckhands only wear armor, some wear samurai robes, etc. The current appearance styles for NPCs/deckhands are: Fighter, Bounty Hunter, Mage, Archer, Knight, Pirate, Samurai, Sailor, and Wealthy.
      • This also lets you change their Color Theme, which changes the color of the gear they wear.
    • When a deckhand’s loyalty is at Dedicated tier, you can now give them a single item that they will wear permanently. This can be an accessory, chestpiece, or leggings, and when given, it will be taken from your inventory.

      • You can give them a different item to wear to get whatever current wearable they have on back.
  • Artifact items can now be obtained from any underwater treasure chest. (1 in 10 chance to get one) These are items that can be given to your deckhand to hold which increases a specific aspect of your ship. The current types are:

    • Worn Compass (+10% chance to escape whirlpools)
    • Frayed Lead Line (+7.5% damage resistance to weather)
    • Rusty Fish Hook (+5% crew fishing speed)
    • Small Gunpowder Barrel (+10% chance for ammunition to not be consumed when firing cannons or mortars)
    • Lucky Coin (+7.5% chance for an extra Sealed Chest to spawn when sinking an enemy ship)
    • Golden Bolt (+10% damage resistance to bumping or crashing)
    • You can give an Artifact to your deckhand by talking to them if their loyalty is high enough, and their held artifacts are displays when talking to them or when hovered in the Shipyard UI.
  • Added new appearance sets for NPCs. (These are used by random-spawning criminals/heroes and travelers/deckhands)

    • The new ones are: Occult, Engineer, Casual, Barbarian, Mafioso, and Cowboy.
  • Added 7 new item modifiers. Previously there was only Atlantean as a modifier. Modifiers can stack with enchantments, but not with other modifiers, cannot be removed from items, and change the visual appearance and stats of the item.

    • Frozen - Items dug up from snow.
    • Archaic - Items dug up from grass/ground.
    • Sandy - Items dug up from sand.
    • Superheated - Items dug up on hot islands.
    • Drowned - Items dug up on swamp islands or found from underwater chests.
    • Blasted - Items dug up at islands destroyed by an explosion. (Currently only Akursius Keep)
    • Crystalline - Items dug up from grass/ground.
    • These modifiers can only be found on items, there is no way to apply them to an item of your choice.
    • All of these can only be found from treasure chart chests, besides Drowned, which can be found on items obtained from any underwater chest. There is a 50% chance for an item from a treasure chart chest to have one of these modifiers.
  • Enemy/boss drop chances are no longer reduced based on how much damage % you dealt to them. (This was a leftover feature from a long time ago that should have been removed for a long time)

  • Your crew will now begin fishing while your ship is idle (not moving). When they start fishing, they will say something in chat and pull out a fishing rod.

    • Your crew can catch 1 fish per 10-20 minutes. When the y catch something, they will say something in chat, and give you the fish their caught when you next take the wheel of your ship.
    • When you start sailing again, your crew will stop fishing. (This does not reset their fish catch timer though, only pauses it)
  • You can now fish while on moving ships.

  • Ships now tilt when steering left and right.

  • Ships now have a sail unfurling/furling animation.

  • Ships now have a custom material for their sails, rather than them being a blank texture.

  • Treasure charts can now be obtained at Level 20+. (originally 40+)

  • When under Level 80, treasure charts you find will only lead to islands you have been to.

  • Added a tip to the treasure chart UI.

  • All Shipwrights now sell Level 30 ship parts. (Wooden Trim, Rugged Trim, Wooden Framing, Wool Sailcloth, and Flax Sailcloth)

  • Edward Kenton’s first upgrade quest is now available at Level 85 instead of Level 65.

  • Dirt now accumulates on your character over time from opening chests and taking damage. It can be washed off by either: swimming, getting hit by water magic, or bathing in the Brig.

  • On warm islands, your character now gradually tans when exposed to the sun.

    • The tan doesn’t increase if you are indoors, under a cloud, if its a foggy day, or if its night time.
    • When at sea or on neutral/cold islands, your tan will fade over time.
    • Takes about 30 minutes worth of day time on a warm island to reach max tan.
  • Arcanium items now have a magic-colored overlay on their item thumbnails.

  • Sunken armor and weapons can now be obtained from any underwater chest rarely, instead of just from fishing.

  • Your character is now slightly lower when walking on sand or snow, and have additional particle effects when running on them.

  • Added an Ambient Volume slider and Render Distance slider to settings. (Render Distance can be set from 50%-250% and affects islands and NPC ships)

  • Added a Texture Quality setting that reverts the custom materials to the base Roblox material textures. (Not sure if this will even do anything but it exists I guess)

  • Added a glow behind the title text of notifications.

  • Added a cooldown to the “freezing” notification since it could be spammed if you go indoors/outdoors in a snowing area frequently.

  • Added new background textures for items in the hotbar and backpack.

  • Items’ original owner tag now displays separately from the description when hovering over items, and now only shows the original owner’s player name, not file name.

  • Reduced the max amount of XP you can get per cargo opened by 50%. (This was because cargo could get you to max level way faster than intended, especially after the change where you can carry 2 at once which makes it way faster to load up on cargo)

    • Since renown is now purely cosmetic with the deckhand changes, this will help the balance people tell what sources of renown need balanced and such
    • The leaderboards have also been reset.
    • This will not be a regular thing - if a renown abuse or unintended farming method gets out of hand, it will usually result in the regular soft reset where people are set back down to 1mil.

    • Caped Silver Pauldrons now give Attack Speed and Agility instead of Attack Speed and Intensity.
    • All pauldron type items that have an armor set now share the same stats as the helmet/boots given by that armor set. (Such as the Leather set)
  • The Atlantean modifier and Virtuous enchantment can no longer be on the same item. Existing items that have both have had their Atlantean modifier removed, and trying to apply Atlantean to a Virtuous item or vice versa will now give an error.
  • An item’s enchantment stat is now capable of changing the stat given by the Atlantean modifier, like how jewels can change it.

Next Update

The next major update will be the start of the Nimbus Sea, which finally continues the story and raises the max level for the first time post-early access release. The update will probably be started in about a week or 2 once my Roblox-related issue is wrapped up, and will include the first 2 chapters of the Nimbus Sea story, multiple new islands, and the kingdom/town alignment system, which I’m super excited to add.

Sadly, I don’t expect the Nimbus Sea update to come before the year ends, since I had to delay the start of it by about a month now due to unforeseen Roblox-related things. It was nice adding this small update in the meantime though, especially with how much it polishes up lacking aspects of the game and gives more incentive to do things like treasure charts and underwater structures.

I hope you all enjoy the update and look forward to sailing to the Nimbus Sea!
