For some game trailers I see smoothly animated face decals. How does it work?
A: Tons of decals using a script
B: Something else
If B, then how?

i think you cant put a video on the face
maybe there is a script change the face of the players every 0.1 second or something like that
That’s not in the game those are trailers made in a program like blender.
You might be able to use Videos
I don’t know how videos work though I have never used them yet.
The only way to create animated faces on characters is if you create a bunch of a frames and string them up together. Tedious, but the only solution. At least until VideoFrames make way, then you can use another program to animate faces. But that’s just hypothetically speaking.
Games have accomplished this concept by minimizing the amount of frames.
You can use a sprite sheet then change the position of the image to the next sprite.
I’m a dummy. I forgot about Blender.
It would look laggy. 0.01 would look smoother. But more decals.
Do you have an example of what you want it to look like? Its hard to pinpoint how exactly you’re thinking of the animated face decals.
I don’t exactly have a perfect example. Just maybe like a smooth video, no lagging from one face emotion to the other.
you could use mesh deformation and make the face out of geometry and animate it smoothly like that.
