A game that I worked on as part of team create under a group owned and fronted by someone else may be threatened with DMCA over unlicensed scripts. Upon learning this, I’ve split with the team as use of this violates my ethical standards as a developer and is in my opinion totally unacceptable.
While I was on the team, I only worked on a couple buildings and recently left the team after being notified of this possible incoming DMCA. I’ve heard of people being held responsible (in terms of Roblox moderation and legal responsibility) for actions of other members of their dev team (an entire dev team getting punished for the actions of one, about a year or two ago), though I also remember hearing that this moderation phenomenon was reformed and resolved.
I want to know whether or not this would come back to me? Could I face account termination even though it was not me who stole and implemented the unlicensed items?
Someone else told a developer that they were open-source, gave them the scripts, and the developer put them in. Turns out they weren’t actually open source, they were leaked scripts for another game, and all parties were (apparently) completely unaware of this fact.
When confronted about it, the owner of the game handled things extremely poorly (refused to immediately remove the scripts), leading to the owners of the script deciding they may try and pursue DMCA. Nobody is really in the wrong here, besides the owner. After their poor handling, I resigned.
OP hasn’t said anything about social engineering to get people banned. They are simply a member of a group that got moderated. Nothing was said about the developers trying to set OP up.
