Unlike text, there is no perfect way to automatically filter any inappropriate image or message drawn or built by players in drawing and building games. As a replacement, many related games offer a “kick user” feature, and a “hide user” button if applicable.
With that said, due to the lack of moderation, are drawing games really allowed? If I had a drawing-based game, would it be allowed in the longrun, or would it be eventually taken down with popularity?
I am aware that this topic has already been debated here, but I have yet to find a clear answer. However, because many drawing and building Roblox games have already existed for years, I do believe that it would be still okay, but I would like to still verify that it is.
Copyrighted Artists, a drawing game, still exists. It’s been there for a while and is pretty popular.
There’s no true way to moderate drawings anyone makes, but you could try to implement a way so that only certain ways of building would be allowed. Adding a kick user/hide user, like you mentioned, is a really good idea.
You could also create a grid based system similar to build a boat for treasure.
There’s a mixed opinion on it, but you have to design it in a way that it makes it hard to draw something inappropriate. Or alternatively, one-user sessions of drawing.
Roblox is a platform powering imagination therefor they handle moderation of the incorrect usage of these sorta ‘sandbox’ games. Many games include a ‘report’ button in them however this is developers choice.
I don’t believe any sandbox drawing / building games have ever been taken down for this sorta reason on roblox and they have been around for years.
I don’t really think there are many rules around art and drawing games. Pixel Art Creator has been around since 2012 and has also sold toys in a variety of IRL stores.
If you are to make a game where users are allowed to draw freely, I would strongly recommend adding a kick feature as well as a block/hide player button and encourage that players are to report inappropriate drawings immediately.
Like you said, there is no way to moderate drawings automatically, which is the only issue. But Bloxburg and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 all revolve around freely building, and they have become some of the most popular games out there.
