Are Free textures just as hated as free models?

Ik that it s seen as a bad sign usually if there are free models in a game, but what about the textures?

I think with the textures you add to your game it is fine I think at least for my point of view. People usually have different perspectives to this but this is what I think but I really don’t use textures that often.

First of all i not really am fan of free textures as you still should think about copyright:

Then its just funny to make its own Texture, if your game uses 99% from Toolbox textures then it not may be really good. I not am saying we can‘t use textures from the toolbox, i just am saying we not should only uses textures from the toolbox (hope you understand)

Ye,ik I don t wanna do a game only using Toolbox textures, but it could be useful for some smaller objects/details and it was just a question anyway.

I also don t use them a lot,I was just kinda curious

Honestly, I do think it depends on the texture.
There’s been some “material kits” where textures for different materials were given, which most of the overrated places such as CafĂ©s use.

Personally, I wouldn’t rely too much on the Toolbox, haven’t seen great textures over there.
But once you google your textures, pretty sure there’s materials without watermarks.

Let’s face it this;
You pick a wooden texture with HD quality which you can size in Roblox. I really doubt someone would feel bothered & personally attacked by such.
Who would put effort into researching what texture you use to report you & take your game down with success?

However, picking some Anime artwork as your texture ( just an example ) without crediting them could cause you trouble, even if the Anime passed through the system.

As long as you consider what you upload, how much influence / impact it has on your project and who might feel seriously bothered through such, you should be fine.

Please don’t judge my perspective. :slightly_smiling_face:

Here’s an example to enlighten you. Now consider if you’d get in heavy trouble just by this texture one. No.

I don’t think it’s bad at all to use free textures. Textures are used for building mostly, so they’re basically not like actual free models, they’re just decals. I use free textures sometimes because I somewhat resent Roblox’s materials because they’re not too advanced. Textures can make a build really good so keep that in mind.

Don’t really see why anyone would have a problem with “free textures”, though I wouldn’t recommend using textures from the toolbox since its so easy to go on websites like textures.com or cc0textures.com which have a plethora of textures you can easily upload yourself

Custom textures are definitely 10x better then Roblox materials in my opinion
