Are in real life gameshows allowed on ROBLOX?

Hey there.

Would creating gameshows on ROBLOX like Wheel Of Fortune or Jeopardy be allowed? As long as the game isn’t making any robux revenue, it should be allowed, right? If it is allowed, I’ve seen a lot of games on ROBLOX with in real life gameshows, and none have gotten banned.

Are you planning on making a game show that is a roblox game? I’m a tad bit confused on your question. I believe if you want to copy a game show based on a real life game show, like Family Feud, you may have some copyright issues but yet again, I’m not 100% sure. It’s best to just make a game show similar to a game show in real life besides making an exact version.

For example, a show called “America’s Got Talent” Was remade in roblox called “Roblox’s Got Talent” and it was completely different from the real life version. There were other tricks you could do etc.

All in all, I would make it your work, and different from the real world so you don’t have to worry about copyright or not.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying so quickly.

That is a great idea. But with shows like Wheel Of Fortune, I cannot rename. Will a name like “ROBLOX Wheel Of Fortune” work? I don’t see why not… Also, the type of game will be manual and a game where players have to attend at a specific time to play.

I see your idea. Except maybe I’m not a huge fan of the name lol. The name you have will work, it just doesn’t sound appealing. Maybe “Wheel of Roblox’s Fortune” or something. I’m terrible at naming things. lol

I don’t see why not; obviously you’d need to change the name to avoid copyright issues. As long as you’re not infringing on IP you should be fine.

I have more experience with IP law and less experience with Roblox (if that makes sense). The answer isn’t straight forward. If you are copying the Wheel of Fortune game… that is protected. If your game happens to have a “wheel of fortune” in it that a player spins (like a stand up wheel commonly seen at charity carnivals and casinos), you are probably in the clear. Games and the way a game is played is most definitely protected though. Another example is a Ouji Board which is owned by Hasbro vs a spirit board that anyone can sell. If you can tweak things to make them different enough then you won’t risk losing a game you enjoyed building.

Even though names of other games and trademarks are commonly abused on this platform doesn’t mean one day soon that your game won’t get pulled from the platform. The only reason so much rampant copyright abuse exists on Roblox is because the actual owner has to complain, not a regular user. Same as Youtube.

Yea, I understand this now. Just wanted to double check with the community, which is why I made this post.

I’d like to add onto this by asking another question.

If we’re allowed to recreate real life gameshows on ROBLOX, are we allowed to use assets like the Game Grid and music from “Wheel of Fortune”?

Likely not. For example, what you said is basically equivalent to making characters/models from a Disney movie and adding it to your Roblox game. Clearly it isn’t allowed, for reasons @inHeadspace mentioned above.

The reason why I said “most likely” is because there are still games that either bend these rules, have been moderated and had a simple name change and/or asset modifications (ROBLOX TV Studios™ - Roblox), or ones that haven’t even been moderated by Roblox at all.

If I were you, I would air on the side of caution. If the game gets popular, it clearly has a higher chance of it being recognized – thus leading to potential moderation action. No developer wants their tireless hours and days of work ruined over something they could’ve prevented in the first place.
