Are karaoke/ fan made instrumentals of copyrighted songs allowed for use in roblox games?

Recently I’ve been working on a sword fighting game and at the end of the rounds I wanted to put some music that are copyrighted.

I don’t have any way of contacting the original owner of the musics and I also didn’t want any problems with my account moderation or even legal stuff, so I tought that using karaoke/ fan made instrumental version of the musics could be a good idea, but, I didn’t know if it was allowed to use them in roblox.

Can someone help me out knowing if this breaks the ToS.

Well, copyrighted music is most likely a no-go so I suggest you don’t try it.

Well the instrumentals are most certainly copyrighted, so uploading them without permission is against TOS. Some people may try to tell you that it will be fine because they aren’t the original songs, but the publisher still has the rights to the instrumentals so it still breaches tos.

The most legal way is to hire a composer (or try doing it yourself) and just create generic versions inspired by the original songs.

If it’s a cover, then it’s allowed.

Here’s a complication:

  • The covers are probably legal due to a new performance, remixes are not completely though. Royalty is paid.
  • Covers themselves are probably copyrighted as well.
