Are SCP creatures copyrighted?

My friend and I are working on a game that is based on the horror genre, and we’re thinking of using a SCP creature as one of the monsters in this game to save time. Our only problem is that we don’t know if SCP creatures are copyrighted or not, or maybe there’s a specific process we need to go through.

Would it just be better grabbing references of monsters and making a similar but not exact replica?

Note: I don’t really know where to put a post like this, so hopefully it’s in the right category.

Some of the SCPs (design/art) are Copyrighted, I think the most notable is SCP-173.

All SCP content, except unless otherwise stated, abides by CC BY-SA 3.0. Most of the content on the site is free for you to use, adapt or modify with appropriate attributions. Best way to get the most information is to read the Licensing Guide, as linked above.

Regarding SCP-173: only the likeness of the image is a no-go, but you’re gold for the rest of it which is why you might see a lot of newer SCP games making their own SCP-173 model if they’re monetising the game. I do believe there was one SCP in which both the whole article and the image could not be used at all, but don’t think that’s the case anymore as it was replaced with a different article.
