Hello, I’ve been a Roblox developer for 4 months now and recently I have actually been thinking of making a tycoon. I have planned out everything from the design of the tycoon to the core mechanics. Now I wonder, are there any problems you get while making a tycoon? How long does it take to make one? I want to find out more about the struggles of making a tycoon game and the skills you need to master. Maybe, I need to learn a bit more stuff. Would be happy to know all of that.
Well the timing of finshing a tycoon depends on how you want it and what it is going to be about
There are too much tycoon games so you are going to be facing a compettive issue (to solve this you would need Robux to buy sponsors or advertisements) and must be a game diffirent compared to other tycoon games.
Skills Require:
Its just the same as the first pargraph but for basic tycoon you would need a Builder/Scripter
I definitely see the competitive issue as a problem but I hope to counter that with an original tycoon idea and gameplay. For the sponsors or advertisements, I don’t really have that much robux or money. I believe that the most viable choice would be to ask youtubers to play my game, but that’s unlikely.
More on the skills:
I know that you need a scripter and a builder. I am going to model the stuff in my game myself, using blender. But overall, what exact scripting skills and knowledge is required? Like, I have been scripting for some time and had learned TweenService, DataStores and functions. Would like to know more skills and knowledge associated or related with making tycoons.
I dont know alot about scripting or programming so it may worth be asking the last question to a scripter .
For lack of robux or funding you could try seeking investors but what makes your game good compared to others and provide revenue amounts thats what I would try doing.
We’ll see about the whole funding thing in about a few months when I release the game into Beta. Thanks for pointing some stuff out, you helped a little.
Making a tycoon as your first game is a pretty good idea!
You can get a good experience in scripting and building. There aren’t any big difficulties when making one, but if you want to advertise your game, then you need robux.
-
Performance: Figure out a good way to optimise droppers.
You can deal with this by not using droppers or making a drop limit per tycoon. -
Competition: Make it unique.
There are almost a million tycoons on Roblox, good luck with this. A simple “hey hey I have this and other tycoons don’t” won’t work. -
Money: You need a lot of Robux (for Ads).
Your game won’t blow up without it. Unless an influencer plays it or you were blessed by the algorithm (both are unlikely) -
Creativity: Game Icons, Thumbnails.
I spent more time on these than the game itself.
I believe you have some valid points, but more about the Game icons and Thumbnails. Why do you spend more time on these than the game itself? I mean you are releasing a game right? While I agree that the Game Icons and Thumbnails should look good, but I’m a bit skeptical on the time spent. For me, I consider the game to be more important and time consuming. At the end of the day, even if you make someone click on your Thumbnail and make them join your game, then what’s the point if the game itself hasn’t been worked on a lot. Anyway, that’s just my opinion. Thanks for some pointers!
It’s more focused on the first impressions. You can have a nice game but a bad game icon, thumbnails and maybe description and name can negatively affect your game.
The game icon is your game’s identity on the website, if it’s bad, people won’t notice it and even worse, ignore it.
The thumbnail has a big impact on players deciding if they should play the game. It gives a general and simple explanation of what your game is visually.
All the stuff that you are saying is true but my main point was that YES, you should make you Game Icons and Thumbnails stand out and look good, but you also have to work on the game itself. This is just a clarification, but ye.
More on the money part though. How can you convince someone to fund your game? Even if they accept the funding do you need to promise them some of your future revenue? Do they transfer the robux using group payments (or whatever they are called) or can you use shirts? If you know anything about funding I would love to know more.
You can get money from commissions, try using TalentHub. It’s hard to convince people since you only have 4 months of experience.
I’m thinking about commissions, but then I realize that I would probably have to work for free, considering I don’t have that much experience in scripting and game developing. But I actually wanna ask if scripters are more needed then builders? Because I have heard that currently there is a lack of scripters. Is this true?
I mean if you have past works, you can showcase them. Working for free seems too much. I haven’t heard about this lack of scripters and stuff. If you actually finished this tycoon and think it’s good enough. Try participating in some community events, it can give you some traffic
Ok thanks for your info! I’ll try some of your ideas, in the meantime, I’m just going to look some more stuff up.
