As a Roblox developer and lighting fanatic, it’s too hard to use the beautiful atmosphere feature when it doesn’t work as it should with custom skyboxes.
Here’s a great video on what I mean:
When the atmosphere turns black, it makes it useless; I want to achieve something like this but I cannot:
No where on the devhub says that atmosphere only works with default sky.
By making this feature work correctly it would improve my experience as I could get better lighting in my games. The atmospheric haze is pretty much useless without this feature as well, the default skybox rarely looks good in most situations.
Here is an example of what we want to achieve:
The default skybox would not work for this, but it’s not possible to use any other skybox because this feature doesn’t work correctly.
Reproduction Steps (For me):
Open studio.
Add a skybox other than the default.
Add an atmosphere instance.
Change the Haze to 1 and change the color.
This happens to me 100% of the time.
Specs
Windows 10 Home.
Intel i7 8th gen.
NVIDIA MX150.
Latest Studio Version. My graphics mode is set to automatic. Changing this did not fix the issue.
This is clearly not a feature request for Studio, but an engine bug. I cannot reproduce this.
You should include a repro file and your system specs, as well as the graphics mode you have enabled, and if changing it in Studio’s settings affects anything. Follow the bug report requirements please.
I am running a GTX 1070 on D3D11 and do not have this issue.
Were they using any skybox? If it’s only with a specific skybox (i.e. the specific images in that skybox don’t place nice) you need to include it as a repro file.
I’ve tested it again. Works as expected with any custom skybox from the assets manager. (I saw in the video you were using a Skybox plugin… don’t know what it does. But also the issue is almost 3 years old at the moment)
Closing the issue at the moment. Feel free to create a new Bug Report if the issue still happens to anyone.
