As a frequent non-USA visitor of the Developer Forums, it is currently annoying having to convert the maintenance times or other important alerts to my time zone (NZST) to make sure it doesn’t affect me.
An easy fix to this would be getting a visitors approximate location via their IP address, and converting the time on these alerts accordingly to their nations current time zone in their area. If Roblox were to implement a feature similar to this it would better the experiences of lot’s of users on this forum.
What are more concrete examples of alerts you wish were localized?
Discourse has a timestamp function that automatically localizes for the reader (as far as I’m aware?). It’s possible staff could make a greater effort to use it.
E.g.
August 21, 5:30 pm in my timezone, does this appear to change for you?
2022-08-21T10:30:00Z
It would be extra useful if they make a live countdown for it
Recently (past few days I’m sure) there was a scheduled maintenance on the Developer Forums, which we were informed by a blue wide rectangular box stating the time that it would occur, listed in PDT (if I can remember). I’m asking if they would be able to automatically convert this to a users local time zone. Oh, and yes it does change for me
Here’s how its done for those who are curious:
<span data-date=\"2022-08-21\" data-time=\"05:30:00\" class=\"discourse-local-date\" data-timezone=\"America/Winnipeg\" data-email-preview=\"2022-08-21T10:30:00Z UTC\">2022-08-21T10:30:00Z</span>
Working for me, but one from announcement notification was not.
There’s a button in the post composer. The rendered html is of no use to you.
We will keep this in mind for future site maintenance announcements!
Didn’t notice that, my bad.
