The idea is you are able to link a “model” to an asset id, and if you make a change and publish the place in studio, it automatically publishes the changes to the model, and if another place is using that model, it automatically retrieves the update.
How would this be useful?
This would be useful if you have (for example) a gun tool on multiple places, and you want to change something in the gun, instead of having to change all the guns in all the places, you can just edit that 1 gun in a place then publish the changes. Yes i know you can use the insert service to load the model, but i was thinking of a more “user freindly” way of loading models.
No, please don’t.
Sounds cool but I wouldn’t like this to be a default feature.
If it would be an option for someone to choose, sure, but I don’t want a model to update just because I moved something in it.
I also wouldn’t like a model to update on every place automatically. If there could be a button saying “Update the model” then sure, but without it…
Consider someone made a cool model, tons of player took it. And now the creator of that model replaced the cool model with say a script virus. Noone who owned that model and used it on place will know what caused the infection, and had no option to prevent this from happening.
As said, idea sounds cool but you gotta see it’s dark side. People will exploit this to make a mess.
###Conclusion 1. Ability to update an outdated model with one click
Support, quick way of updating the model without any unnecessary actions.
2. Automatic updating every outdated model on the place
Absolutely not, this will be abused to cause damage to the place with unwanted content.
At that point couldn"'t you use InsertService and make your own system? Also exploiting the system isn’t a concern apparentky seeing Roblox has enough trust in us with private modules.
