Welcome to Avebury’s promotion guide! This guide is here to help Junior Teachers, Teachers, Senior Teachers, and Expert Teachers understand how to progress in their Avebury journey. If you’re not yet a Junior Teacher, read our how to become a teacher guide! This guide is not a complete list of every expectation, so continue to use good judgment and follow the latest Avebury rules and notices.
Your journey through the ranks
Junior Teacher → Teacher → Senior Teacher
Teach lessons to earn XP. Once you reach the required staff level (Level 5 for Teacher and Level 10 for Senior Teacher), you’ll automatically get promoted!
Senior Teacher → Expert Teacher → Assistant Year Leader
To be eligible for ranks above Senior Teacher, you must be verified in the Avebury Discord server and not have safe chat enabled on your Roblox account.
After you have met the requirements and consistently shown that you are ready, you will eventually be promoted to Expert Teacher and then Assistant Year Leader given enough hard work! Please note there is no limit on the number of Expert Teachers, while there are a maximum of 4 Assistant Year Leaders.
The positives: keep doing these!
-
Work consistently. Staff activity is divided into two main components: time in session & lessons taught. We recommend aiming to work 30 minutes to 1 hour each day and teaching 1 - 2 lessons a day.
-
Teach with purpose. Focus on helping students understand the lesson and creating a positive session. Quality matters just as much as activity.
-
Show maturity and professionalism. Be respectful, use good judgment, and handle difficult situations calmly. These qualities help people feel confident relying on you.
-
Be helpful wherever you can. Support café, pastoral, reception, and other session duties when appropriate. Small acts of support can make a big difference to the people around you.
-
Think like a leader. Take initiative, solve problems sensibly, share useful feedback, and step up when something needs attention.
-
Stay connected. Keep up with staff discussions, meetings, social channels, and off-duty events such as game nights. Positive relationships strengthen the whole community.
-
Stay informed. Follow Avebury’s rules and keep up with #notices and #staff-notices so you always know what is expected.
-
Keep improving. Your journey will not look exactly like someone else’s. Focus on your next lesson, your next improvement, and the contribution you can make today.
The negatives: avoid these!
-
Do not ask for or hint at promotions. Let your work speak for itself. Trying to force attention can make your progress feel less genuine.
-
Do not chase XP at the expense of quality. Repetitive or poorly taught activity should not replace real effort, good lessons, and positive interactions.
-
Avoid unnecessary drama. Stay away from petty disputes, disrespectful conversations, and behavior that could damage the trust others place in you.
-
Do not act above your rank. Support staff and students within your role, but do not pretend to have permissions, commands, or responsibilities you have not been given.
-
Avoid inconsistent inactivity. You do not need to be online constantly, but staying engaged and dependable gives you more opportunities to learn and be noticed.
-
Do not let other responsibilities stop you from contributing. Leadership roles require time and attention, so consider whether you can give Avebury School your best while holding responsibilities at other operational schools.
-
Keep your record strong. Follow the rules. If you receive disciplinary action and believe it should be reconsidered, appeal it through the appropriate process so the record can be reviewed.
Keep going!
Your next step may be closer than you think. Attend the training, teach the next lesson, help someone who needs you, and keep building your experience one contribution at a time.
Avebury is always looking for staff who bring energy, kindness, reliability, and initiative. Do not compare your timeline to anyone else’s—keep learning, keep showing up, and give yourself the opportunity to be noticed.
We believe in the potential of our LRs, and we cannot wait to see what you accomplish next!
