I was wondering if you think having background music in like an application center would be positive. I would obviously have a button you can click to turn off the music but do you think I should have it be playing automatically once you join the game. Also what songs do you think are good background music songs. I was going to use this song: https://www.roblox.com/library/1128919463/F-A-S-T-Song
The song is good for background music. Maybe lower the volume of it but it’s good. I love it!
The general approach for these ideas is to find a background song that matches the game/scene/etc and isn’t obnoxious. Also make sure it’s at a comfortable volume where it isn’t too high it becomes distracting or too low where people can’t hear it.
Would you recommend having multiple songs play like. Once the song ends a different one plays or just loop the same song.
Songs with vocals don’t make for good background tracks most of the time. The vocals are distracting when the user also has to read text in English at the same time. It also doesn’t let you play it subtly in the background since if you reduce the volume to a comfortable level, the vocals will blare out on top and you wouldn’t hear the actual music anymore.
I recommend finding a calmer track without vocals that you can easily play at a low volume in the background. (Check the APM library that Roblox uploaded)
You can do either, but if you make it into a playlist (multiple songs) try to pick songs that are pretty similar / blend in well. Since you don’t want an abrupt pause or bpm change.
For the application center I use, I chose a very soft, non-vocals, piano piece.
Essentially I just listened to songs until I found one that I could listen to for ~20 minutes without getting annoyed or overwhelmed by volume. I think your goals would align with that:
- Passive or slower-tempo song, fitting the theme of a background song.
- Vocal-less. Imagine trying to read something while someone’s talking to you.
- Lengthy, or diverse (one song or multiple) to avoid repetition.
*Note: I’d caution against piano pieces. A lot of them tend to be vibrant and distracting.
Whenever I think of background music, I think of a very specific song from Doctor Who (that vibraphone song from the episode where Donna Noble returns in case you know what I’m talking about). General background music for offices and elevators, especially in video games, is usually in a blues key and is very jazzy, having a swing time a lot of times, but not necessarily. This is just my observation.
Adding background music to games is highly positive.
Music is not something which is necessary in games, but provides a finer touch, and makes playing the game a much more enjoyable experience.
However, music is only suitable if it goes with the game. For example you wouldn’t want classical music in an action game.
Great luck with what you are working on and hope this helps.
When it comes to having background music play throughout a room you have to understand the mood and setting you are displaying it in. You say it is for an “application center,” if that is so then you don’t want something too energetic where their pace increases with the song. Instead have a calm tone at low volume, this will be seen as relaxing and reduce any sort of nervousness from arising. Anything upbeat or loud will make the individual want to get out faster and have a heighten pace to do so.
Users like buildthomas and others are right and wrong that vocals don’t really add to a background track. Perhaps in retail when it’s the latest trendy songs to keep shoppers satisfied. But vocals for an application center can be seen as both distracting and motivating. Distracting being they might get sidetracked in what they are speaking or thinking about while applying. And motivating depends on what is being said in the song. It differs for some, of course, but in most cases listening closely to what the song says can have an impact on an individual. Just be mindful of what the lyrics are conveying.
As for suggestions, you could look through the APM library or what Roblox has uploaded. Don’t be too surprised if the composition of some are cheesy but you will find what you are looking for. I don’t want to be self-promoting so I won’t suggest myself. Check out the link below. I believe this one will be suitable for what you need. Loop it if needed.
If the game is meant to be played at the users own pace and is something like an application center than I think the proper background music can be very nice.
However, if its more of an intense game or it is something that is round based, you would either have to have constantly changing music to reflect the current in-game situation or none at all.
Just my opinion though not sure what anybody else thinks.
I always enjoy some good tunes especially while waiting for something. Definitely give them the option to tune into some music but of course have it toggle-able.
Background music can make or break a game. Add the music but include a mute button or something for the players that do find it annoying.
Alright, Thank you for the feedback. I decided to use these songs for the background music.

Depends really on the song. For instance, the one you sent I could imagine it being distracting to people. Personally, I think a song with no vocals in it would do the best.
