This is an interesting topic I wanted to go over, what do you think about Badge Games? If you don’t know what it is, it’s a game where you can earn badges. A lot of people thinks it’s a waste of robux, please let me know your opinion.

Badge Games are a waste of robux.
I don’t see why someone would spend robux on that.
I believe you should spend robux on that.

I don’t mind them, I just don’t want to spend robux on badges.
I’m NoahG59, creator of Vex Badge Walk. We have 466 badges in the game and have spent 46,600 on badges, and thousands more on advertising and developers. I would say badge games are a great way to get initial experience as a developer and to give back to the badge community. You won’t become rich off a badge game, it just doesn’t make enough. If your primary purpose is to create a fun experience and express yourself, go ahead! You will have to spend a few thousand of your own to get started. Having friends or a community to share with may help your game grow too. Being consistent with your updates helps get it established. I updated my game daily for three months, funding about half those badges myself. It was expensive, but it helped me give back and gain a ton of experience on a basic project. If you have the money and time, go for it! Just don’t expect to become rich off it.
Badge games are definitely cool, good ones really pop out from the others. It’s mostly beneficial to the badge collecting community, and there’s definitely that addiction of going into new badge games and collecting all of them.
Go for it! If it’s well-designed and fun to play, it’ll definitely bring in players. Make sure not to make the game not TOO badge-oriented, make some minigames, obbies, etc.
I understand a badge game and if that’s what the games about it’s not a waste of robux. but for other games my question is: why use badges over making your own ingame badges/achievements system?
Badge games do nothing to profit, while these games might helpful to increase a player’s badge count, they do not earn money for the creator.
Yes, I would recommend adding badges to your game to give the users some goals to focus on, but if you are referring to a badge walk, I am completely opposed to wasting thousands of Robux just to allow badges for the user to collect without any skill at all.
Why are you discussing this on the DevForum? Creating badges and allowing users to walk on them isn’t pertaining to any important Roblox development. I suggest you don’t do it and instead focus on creating & discussing real, profitable, and fun games here on the DevForum and on Roblox in general.
Thanks for reading my stance on badges.
tl;dr: Badges are fun incentives to keep users playing your game but shouldn’t be used to create games where you walk on hundreds or thousands of badges. These games aren’t profitable for the developer or fun for the user, while costing the developer thousands of Robux to create these badges, and lots of time creating the badges.
Badges act as an advertisement in a way. The amount of times I see Arsenal badges is constantly reminding me about the game. I have also discovered hundreds of obbies via badges. An in-game achievement system doesn’t do that, so you would lose out on a potential source of players.
Good point. I’ve never looked at them this way so I guess it would really come down to personal preference and if you would want to spend robux on that or not.
Moving this out of Discussion because it’s too specific a topic to a game you want to create (and want to know if it’s worth moving forward with said idea) rather than on a general topic related to Roblox development. Please build concepts in Game Design Support.
I asked it here since I wanted to see other people’s opinion on it, as it varies from person to person. Some people will consider it as a real game, like me. Thank you for your reply.
Badges are nice for collectors. Players sees a badge that only .1% of people have, they will instantly start grinding for that badge. People love collecting all the badges even if it is just for self glory.
