Ban "What do you want to do before/during 20XX" posts from Dev Discussion

We all know these kinds of posts. We all flag them. Most of the time they get taken down, but sometimes they stay. Countless examples of these can be found, most removed. We need set rules for what to do with these. Considering most of them get taken down, I suggest outright banning them.

Process

Allow these kinds of posts to always be flagged as “off-topic”. It doesn’t encourage discussion, and the content really should go in the “What are you working on 20XX” megathread in #help-and-feedback:cool-creations, because it’s basically showcasing content.

Open for discussion, and for those who would rather use a poll (or both):

Should we ban “What do you want to do before/during 20XX” posts?

I think only one thread should be utilized for this purpose, we don’t need multiple threads about the same topic.

Therefore, people should search up something before making a thread, which honestly, should be done before posting anything.

Please! These posts are irrelevant and not needed. They are also copies of #waywoc. Instead of “Before 20XX,” it should be before anything.

Technically, these should already be banned except for the first thread as they are duplicate threads. Threads can and have been taken down for being duplicates, and saying what they are a duplicate of when flagging can help the process.

I’ve flagged multiple of these threads, and DET did not remove them. Not sure why…

Although personally I see where it can be a clutter although it is nice for the community. Even though roblox does one each year let’s talk about youtube for a second.
YouTube makes a rewind yearly. Just because pewdiepie uploads his YouTube rewind yearly because youtube sucks doing there’s does that mean YouTube should be deleting PewDiePie’s video yearly?
If it’s this much of an issue have roblox make another discussion tab called “Off-Topic Discussions”

The DevForum isn’t YouTube, and also, just use waywoc.

Which is definitely not happening. This is a developer forum, so we discuss developing, and duplicates are still duplicates regardless of category.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: This is the exact reason this happens. This isn’t social media! We aren’t YouTube. We are a professional community. We don’t need “What will you do before Christmas?” (Very non-inclusive by the way,) “What have you done over break?” “How will you spend your winter break?”

Stop with these topics.

Well I wouldn’t ban it though every topic like this can just be excused to #waywoc.
I can’t be that upset at them (because when I first started making topics I am accountable of this), though there could be action taken onto it.

If no action is taken, users will continue to do it. It’s not like they’ll get a strike or anything, just feedback.

Like incapaz said that is a bad idea and wouldn’t happen.
I mean people want the development discussion to be deleted, this would just be h*CK (joke intended).

There is already an off topic category for regulars only in lounge, though giving that ability to members would be… bad
(I found a screenshot of the lounge online you can see the “off-topic” thing here image)

Why would we when we can simply make our own? There is over 5000 replies on waywoc. Some if not all the replies made there are subtle advertising. There’s tons of developers on the platform itself so expect to see duplicates.
With all these developers on the platform quite a bit of the talented ones aren’t recognized until something stupid roblox does gets them noticed. And this is of course a yearly thing that developers will ask what our development goals for the year are but after a few days of the new years it tends to die down till the next year.

Have you ever read #waywoc? These aren’t any real issues. Maybe read the topic before replying.

Are you posting on these threads to get likes and views? You shouldn’t care if you aren’t. It doesn’t matter if tons of people can see it, some people do.

also I entirely agree with @FxllenCode

I think such posts should be banned. There’s a megathread which encompasses all of these posts; there’s no point in having a load of duplicate posts asking what we’re building before Christmas or whenever. I think people are aware of this as well - it seems as if they’re creating these posts simply to increase their post count.

Yes I agree ive seen multiple of these posts which clutter the #development-discussion.
Adding to my point developers should be searching before they post to prevent duplicates.
