Being able to click on the in-game icon on home page

I feel like this has probably been asked about before but just in case it hasn’t I thought I would go ahead and make the suggestion. I think its really difficult to get to the game page of a game someone is playing, you can’t even get to it if you click on their profile (unless you do join game) but I don’t always want to go straight into their game. I thought a good idea would to make the icons clickable kind of like the friends page icons. It should be consistent over the entire site right?

I feel like this is one of the most frustrating things, and seems easily fixable

I remember it briefly having the ability to follow the user into their game via the in-game icon.

I don’t agree with it, but the removal of this functionality was an intentional design choice.

They want you to use the chat/party widget to follow people in-game, so I imagine they neglected to include the ability to find what game your friend is in in order to force you to follow them (soon with the chat widget) to find out.

Aurarus already presented the cases for why being able to find which game they’re in were useful, but was shot down, I assume because their envisioned behavior for the chat widget was more important than what Aurarus mentioned. So, I guess if we want this functionality, the best way to accomplish it is to convince the staff that this behavior is extremely important to us (more so than what they have planned for the chat widget) – not just list its uses.

In response to my last post:

From personal experience, being prohibited from finding out what kind of game they’re in has made me less sociable of a person. I don’t want to load up a place my friends are at only to find it’s something I’m not interested in, so I never follow them in-game anymore unless I know the place they’re at. When we still had this functionality, I would frequently take a glance at the thumbnails, creator, and description of the place they were at and enter the place if it looked interesting – this is a much higher rate of following them in-game than what I exhibit currently, never.

As has been mentioned on these forums previously, not being able to access the page of the game someone is playing prevents you from purchasing the game if it’s paid access. To add on to that, we’ve had a lot of people on both these and the regular forums sharing hacky ways to access the page of the place your friends are currently playing (i.e. checking Friend Activity to find the place they’re currently in) – users resorting to hacks to accomplish what was deemed “not useful” should raise a red flag.

I’m also not a fan of being forced into using the chat widget by ROBLOX (not only shoving such important functionality into something not everyone would otherwise use, but also not being able to turn it off) like I am with Google+ by Google’s YouTube. This isn’t the fault of the widget – it’s wonderfully designed (except maybe the minimized button’s size). The staff should be well aware that being continually available to chat at any hour is not realistic by a longshot, as they aren’t able to constantly discuss features and bugs on the forums with us. If people want to get in contact with me, they should send a PM – I don’t like being forced into using something that’s obviously not for everyone.

100% agree.

It’s a really poor design choice to take away a feature that only provided a positive impact (it has no impact on the page’s visual design, there’s literally nothing negative that comes from being able to click that icon - I don’t see why this hasn’t been added already).
Plus, you can already get to the game’s page by navigating to the My Friends page (which was designed after the new profile page) and finding your friend on there - so forcing people for no apparent reason to take a much longer route to perform the same function is just downright silly.

 I never knew you could do that! Since it’s on the friends page, maybe the decision was already made that the feature is important enough, and they just haven’t gotten around to updating the profile page.

Even better, what if you could see what games your friend are playing without having to mouse hover over the icon

Or, if you have more than one friend, you could see what your friends are playing.

hmm.

looking at a friend’s profile, I’ve found ROBLOX stores a global variable with the place ID. Interesting - this means we can figure out how to add a link to the place a player is in, assuming we are able to follow them.

$(function() { $("#profile-header-more").on("click touchstart", "#profile-join-game", function() { // NOTE: global var set due to legacy game launch code. play_placeId = [PLACE_ID]; Roblox.GameLauncher.followPlayerIntoGame([USER_ID]); }); });

seems like a new addition.

Not enough meaningful space to show that information anywhere. The profile is already a mile long with its mostly meaningless widgets all using a horizontal bar format, and they had to cut it in half.

The only way I can see more stuff being added is if they approach the multiple column approach.

We’re now able to jump to the game they’re in from the home page btw. Still missing it from the profile page though ):
