Hello Devforum! I’m about to start building a car dealership, but then I got stuck on how I should build it. This lead me to this question, what is the best way to create a building? Should I make it in blender then just import and position it in studio? Or maybe just build it in studio with the classic parts? Or possibly a combination? Also keep in mind lag, which one would lag the least while still maintaining a really good look? Any thoughts are welcome!
If you’re going to make a large building, Roblox Studio is your best bet. I’d suggest using Blender for the smaller things like plants, cars, vending machines.
The best way to make a building is arguably to use modular assets. Most games you see today rely on using modular art assets to piece together their levels.
The way I would approach this is to determine what needs to be in the environment’s layout itself. Then I would go through the typical revision and draft process, going from placeholder assets to the final design. I prefer personally to make my assets in Blender then import them into Roblox Studio.
I highly encourage you to do a google search on modular assets and doing a deep dive into the subject. There’s tons of fun reading, tutorials, and lectures to sit through. But personally, I like this GDC conference video about the behind the scenes of Fallout 4.
For large scale use Studio. Small details use Blender but try to not have a high tri count for your models.
