A couple of months ago, an alleged groomer copied one of my old outfits and was impersonating me. Their information is blurred out because I prefer to not involve myself in such drama and it could be damaging to ones reputation, but this still makes me uncomfortable.
While an argument could be made that they could copy whatever I’m wearing, this issue wouldn’t have arisen if I could hide my outfits from the public. It’s not only an easy target of harassment online, but it isn’t a feature that gives off any indication that others can see it.
I hope for either better privacy tools to combat this, or for Roblox to state on the page that outfits are public, and can be viewed / accessed by anyone in-game.
This however, would affect many outfit viewer & avatar editor experiences, so it’d probably be the best of both worlds to require outfit games to access your inventory to view your outfits. Many of them request it regardless to load your items.
I can’t count the amount of times this behavior has deterred me from saving an outfit. This needs to happen.
Sure, it might break games that have an “outfit loader” feature, if they don’t change their code. But that’s why announcements exist, right? Roblox already has an engine API AvatarEditorService:GetOutfits() that allows you to read outfits created by the local player, which is already locked behind inventory access with AvatarEditorService:PromptAllowInventoryReadAccess(). Being able to use a web API to bypass this check shouldn’t have ever been possible to do in the first place.
I’ve noticed that Roblox has been seemingly focusing a lot more on user privacy over the past year, so this would be a perfect change to top it all off.
EDIT: For anyone else affected by this, I just found out that you can use an extension called “RoQoL” to save private outfits in your web browser, and I’ve since migrated all my outfits to this. (This is a third-party tool so use at your own risk.)
Private wear is required for protecting user identity, safety, and self-expression in online spaces like Roblox. Users who are exploring aspects of their identity gender, sexuality, or ethnicity saved wear can be deeply invested and not yet ready to be exposed to public. The lack of visibility settings provides opportunities for
targeted harassment,
**identity theft, and
misuse of outfits**
in ways that can lead to emotional harm or real-life consequences. Without clear indicators that these outfits are public, users may inadvertently expose sensitive information under the mistaken belief that it’s saved privately by default. Including a privacy option gives users the power to decide how they wish to represent themselves.
Please make Roblox a secure and polite environment for everyone.
