Better Textures

image
Hello everyone, I’m back from a 2 year break from modeling and decided to start using substance painter! Here’s my first hat I made using the program and came out better than I expected! It was an attempt on recreating the classic Purple Banded Top Hat (Purple Banded Top Hat - Roblox) to pay tribute to the first hat made on Roblox since this was my first hat created using Substance Painter. Any advice or feedback is really appreciated!

How is it going @ObedientMas?

Firstly, welcome back to modeling! :tada: It is great to see you back and sharing awesome work (and also sharing funny posts on Twitter, haha).

I must say that the model of the accessory is quite different… A bit extended, but not bad… The only thing that triggers me is the type of texture. If we compare the traditional UV to the current one (which is yours), it does not look smooth.

Some might say: “What do you mean not looking smooth?” – You see, it is not the banded area, and yes every segment. I use Substance 3D Painter as well but I am not sure how you adjusted the color and/or height (if applied with them) or the baking… The only thing I can assure you is the type of Lighting you used which seems pretty different from the standard (I suppose you used the “Studio Tomoco” as the Environment Map?).

Yeah honestly I just put everything apart from each other in the UV layout which made it look pretty disorganized and weird. I didn’t mess with the height or environment lighting, all I really did was us the paint tool with fabric and exported the texture as a 2D image.
