Big drop in player count after updating game

My game (Just Build! [🧹RECOLOR] - Roblox) has slowly grown, and in the last few weeks the player count has been getting a lot higher than before. Nothing huge, but 30-50 CCU.

It has been months since the previous update, but the recent rise in players motivated me to keep working on the game again, and I made an update implementing two new features that were requested countless times.

Now, after the update the player count suddenly stays between just 3-10! Why was my game that wasn’t updated for months increasing in popularity and now it suddenly dies when I update?
The update was nothing game changing, I simply added two tools that would help players recolor their builds (It’s a building game). It must have something to do with the algorythm and how Roblox handles updated games.

Any ideas why this is occurring? Thanks.

Are the updates buggy at all? Did you test them thoroughly?

It could be a coincidence that the player count dropped as soon as you updated. School started in September for everyone in the northern hemisphere so that’s a ton of players you’re going to lose to studying and homework.

But for a game that has a consistent player count and approaching a million visits, I wouldn’t worry too much. You’re already doing better than probably 90% on the platform!

I tested it a lot and there don’t seem to be any bugs. Even if the features I added wouldn’t work, it wouldn’t make people leave since it’s just small optional tools you can use. The core gameplay is untouched.

I don’t think it has to do with school, we’re a few weeks into September, and for most of that time the player count has been good.

Yea, I guess you’re probably right about that, thanks.

Did you alter your game title at all for the update?

I did change it to “Just Build! [:broom:RECOLOR]”. I figured this could have been the issue so I changed it back. But no difference yet, still pretty low player counts.

The act of changing it has an effect on how it comes up in searches, depending on what words were added and if the order changed. However, if you have an active player base this shouldnt matter as much, as these people know to search your game already.

Changing it back should eventually return it to what the searches produced before, in theory. Although my games don’t get many players, i did notice a huge drop in visits after adding the words “Xmas Event” before the start of my game name… and it never fully went back to the same visitorship sadly when i changed it back after the event. And the event only added a better feature with a bug free dev module, so it wasnt the update itself… it had to be the name (I also dont need concurrent players, so these were new visits).
