Blair "A New Era" Changelog

Welcome back, hunters. It’s been a while. Over the last few months, we’ve prepared the largest update for this game and we hope you’ll enjoy it. Overall the goal of this update was to amend core gameplay, which included locating the ghost, identification and difficulty changes. We also made amendments to certain equipment items, not just how they work, but also implementing the ability to equip your tools with unlockable skins and attachments. If this summary is not enough, feel free to read the following detailed changelog.

New and original ghost types

In addition to finishing all ghost traits, we’ve introduced the following trio to our collection.

Harrow

  • The Harrow is a ghost type that does whatever necessary to guard its location. The more people are near it, the more aggressive it will be
  • Because of this trait, the Harrow will never roam to different rooms on its own
  • Strength: During hunts, the ghost is incredibly fast while in its ghost room
  • Weakness: However, it gradually gets slower the further away the ghost room is
  • Evidence: Fingerprints, Ghost Orbs, Ghost Writing

Lament

  • The Lament is a ghost identifiable by its annoying nature. This ghost likes to pull “pranks” to lure its prey to it. Watch your stamina and be very careful with this ghost
  • Strength: Near the end of a hunt, the Lament might decide to fake the end of a hunt. It can end the disruption on electronics and become quiet to lure victims
  • Weakness: The Lament does not speed up at the sight of a player during hunts
  • Evidence: EMF Level 5, Ghost Orbs, Spirit Box

Yama

  • The Yama might annoy hunters by its constant evasion of hunters equipment. This ghost doesn’t roam a lot, but when it does, the room it wanders to becomes its new ghost room
  • Strength: As the Yama keeps wandering around, collecting evidence might pose a challenge to hunters
  • Weakness: While stunned by an Incense Burner, these ghosts will not wander out until the end of the effect

Equipment customization and Ornaments event

  • We implemented cosmetic skins and attachments to ingame equipment. Select a skin and put on a few attachments on it to make the tool that you really like
  • The Ornaments event will be available for a few weeks. To progress, complete optional objectives while correctly identifying the ghost type. If you had “-1 Evidence” or “-2 Evidences” challenges active, the earned currency will be multiplied by the respective amount
  • Part of this event is a limited stock UGC accessory, only earnable from this event
  • Locked to level 20 and higher ingame, though the event is for everyone!

Incense Burner

  • A new tool, costs $60 ingame currency, with a max amount per round of 4
  • Each burner has a one-time use per round, you must have a lighter in your inventory to use it
  • While it might not look like it, the execution starts immediately on left click
  • Ignition lasts 5 seconds, the burner can stun the ghost at any point during those 5 seconds
  • The stun during hunts lasts 2 seconds (Spirits: 6 seconds). This timer keeps getting reset if the ghost is close enough to the burner!
  • The incense effect lasts 2 minutes (Spirits: 3 minutes)
  • The incense effect will be cast on the ghost if:
    – The ghost is physically manifested and the burner is at least 16 studs (4.48 m) from the ghost
    – The ghost is NOT physically manifested and the burner is in the current ghost room

Dynamic weather

  • Enjoy the following weather on your favourite maps
  • Clear weather: The one we’re all familiar with for now…
  • Rain: The temperature outside is slightly lower, puddles appear and windows have a rainy ambience
  • Snow: The temperature outside can go freezing, windows are frosted, the temperature inside might start much colder than usual and some surfaces can be painted to snow

Changes to the usual ghost wandering

  • Previously, ghosts could wander around a massive location instantly, skipping over tens of meters in an instant
  • The new system has ghosts roam to rooms that are close by, which will be especially noticeable on large maps such as Orphanage or School
  • Ghosts that are noticeable by their love of roaming, namely the Wraith, might make larger jumps while roaming

Temperature rework

  • The temperature will slowly go down if the ghost is present in the room
  • The temperature no longer goes up in the ghost main room
  • On Hard and Nightmare difficulties, or with the “No Lights” challenge, the initial temperature in all rooms will start low
  • The temperature in all rooms will increase if the local fuse box is active

EMF Readings rework

  • Previously, EMF was only present in the current room and used random values between 2-5
  • Now, EMF is created by ghost interactions and events, that means you have to approach the subject with an EMF reader to collect possible evidence
  • Interactions usually have EMF 2-3, events have EMF 4
  • Any reading has a chance to become EMF Level 5 if it is one of the non-hidden evidences

The Ouija Board

  • Added digits to the board, which will be especially useful for rooms like Classrooms
  • Questions have been completely reworked from scratch
  • The Ouija Board will never “fail”
  • A question can drain more sanity than another one would, for instance “Where are you” drains 50% sanity
  • You can now use “Hide and Seek” to create a cursed hunt, however, this will render the board no longer usable for the rest of the round

Tarot Cards

  • The overall animation is shorter
  • The High Priestess card now revives a random dead player, if any, instead of following a sequence
  • The High Priestess card, if no one is dead at the moment, yields its effect until someone dies

The Parabolic Microphone

  • This tool has been sitting in dust lately, but as for this update, certain changes were conducted to improve it
  • Now relays sounds that it detects in a muffled fashion
  • The chances of the well-known Banshee scream have been slightly increased

Difficulty changes

  • The sanity display is no longer broken on Hard or Nightmare difficulties
  • Sanity now starts at 100% on Nightmare difficulty
  • The average sanity threshold for hunts is now 50% on all difficulties, exceptions apply
  • Sanity drain on Nightmare further increased
  • Sanity will no longer naturally go up outside in any difficulty
  • Ghosts will be attracted to chat messages on Hard difficulty as well (not just Nightmare)

Other changes

  • Light switches can now be toggled even while the local fuse box is turned off
  • The light switches now actually flip when they’re on
  • Added objective: “Cleanse the ghost room with an Incense Burner”
  • Added objective: “Stun the ghost while hunting with an Incense Burner”
  • The endgame payout rewards have been amended in favour of completing optional objectives
  • The endgame frame now runs faster, and now displays level progress
  • If you guess the ghost right and complete all objectives, players receive a bonus
  • Changes to orbs appearance and behaviour
  • All ghosts but Banshees will now kill anyone who touches them instead of just whoever they’re after
  • Banshees are able to chase and kill anyone if their desired target is not in the house at the moment
  • Kicking a player will now return their added items
  • “Fast Ghosts” challenge disabled
  • “Wimp” kit buffed: Now gets more lasting sprint stamina (3s → 6s)
  • “The Cat” kit nerfed: After revive, stamina is lower, maximum inventory slots decreased by 1
  • Campsite map disabled
  • Amended level requirements for progression of chat titles: Noob Hunter (10), Novice Hunter (30), Experienced Hunter (50), new Advanced Hunter (75), Elite Hunter (100), Ghost Whisperer (200)
  • Added level 2K trophy
  • The “Extra public config” setting now starts enabled
  • Very basic tutorial implemented to main menu
  • Added statistics: “Most deaths to” and “Times ghost incensed”
  • Added multiplier value label to challenges selection menu
  • Certain challenges now have a different multiplier weight
  • Finjito’s map is no longer group locked
  • A cursed hunt will now have a grace period of 2 seconds (except when summoned by summoning circle, remains 5 seconds)
  • You can now take a photo of one of the 3 cursed possessions
  • Lighters will now repeat the lighting process until successful or unequipped
  • Candles will no longer extinguish themselves after a time period
  • Shoulder lights will no longer turn off when cycling through inventory
  • Players can no longer end the match while the ghost is hunting
  • Added bonus for guessing the ghost type correct on large maps (+5 on Farmhouse, +10 on Orphanage and School)
  • Added a new zone to Orphanage map (at the corridor near the viewing deck staircase)
  • Adjusted candle positioning in Finjito’s map
  • Shades will now be almost 80% less likely to do interactions or events when at least 1 person is in its room
  • Disabled user emotes
  • Radio now starts enabled
  • Proximity prompts will no longer be visible while in video camera view
  • During a hunt grace period, the ghost will no longer start off in the walking animation
  • During a hunt grace period, the ghost will no longer aimlessly walk until the hunt has begun
  • The “survive a ghost hunt” objective will no longer be completed if someone died in that hunt
  • The “survive a ghost hunt” objective will now appear after the hunt has ended rather than just before that
  • Sanity soda now has an interaction animation
  • Sanity soda now restores sanity gradually instead of immediately, the increment values have been slightly buffed
  • If a ghost attempts to open a closet or door but there isn’t any, it will roll another interaction instead of doing nothing
  • “Get the Ghost to step in Salt” objective disabled
  • Rephrased candles objective (“Get the ghost to turn off the candles” → “Get the ghost to blow out a candle”)
  • Ouija Board objective changed (“Use the Ouija Board” → “Use a cursed object in the location”)
  • Thermometer objective changed (Get under 5°C with the Thermometer → Get under 1°C with a Thermometer)
  • The temperature should not unrealistically bounce around as much anymore
  • Ghosts will no longer interact with salt piles during hunts
  • Middle click or long tap a ghost type in the evidences page to immediately access its description
  • Poltergeists can now interact with doors, closets, light switches during hunts and manifestation events
  • Mare candle blowout range increased (90 studs), other ghosts 40 studs
  • All ghosts can now blow out candles during any event or hunt - relative to their physical location if manifested
  • Thermometers will update the displayed reading less often
  • Thermometers will display different temperatures when the tip is near a lit candle or in a player’s character
  • Thermometers now have a disruption effect similar to other electronic equipment
  • Light switches UV will now reveal fingerprints instead of full handprints
  • Increased UV exposure strength of UV Flashlight (basically easier to see prints)
  • Dead players can now sprint indefinitely
  • Dead players will no longer be affected by the “Slow Players” challenge
  • Head cam repositioned
  • List of ghost types in the ghosts page reworked
  • Internal changes in the menu to make lobbies, players and invitees hopefully load faster
