Hi there!
So I’m trying to make a pine tree on blender to import into one of my games. I’m following a YouTube tutorial (I got blender like a week ago, so I’m pretty much lost) and I’ve run into an issue. when I insert an image as a plane, it looked like this:
So I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, or why the image isn’t showing up, but any help would be much appreciated as I have no clue how to get this to work. If you’re interested then here’s the link to the tutorial I’m using, and also I am using a PNG file for the leaf texture. I don’t know if that matters. Anyway, thanks for reading!
P.S. Is this the right category? It might belong in building support, but art design support said something about meshes so…anyway please tell me if I need to change it
Instead of a plane, add an image by going into the add meshes drop-down thing, and instead of going to meshes, go down to images, then into reference. Input your file name and boom, the image should appear.
Will the image come up when I export it into Roblox Studio? Because I thought reference images were just that–for reference, not for the actual modeling.
By the way it isn’t letting me put loop cuts in it.
References allow you to model based on the reference. Basically, you can make planes that align with the blueprint of a car, or use a reference to get a sense of what your trying to build. References are just for reference, you don’t import them If you want it to show up in Roblox, make a decal, but if you want the image to be the actual texture, then you should learn about textures and texturing.
Ok thank you! The image is supposed to be the leaves for the pine tree, and it’s not working the way the video shows. I’m going to try and mess around with decals in studio and see if I can make it like that, and import just the trunk from blender.
Oh my, I must have misunderstood this problem, if I am now understanding this correctly, you wanted to import an image as a plane into blender, now after accidentally figuring this out, I wanted to tell you how to do it.
All you have to do is navigate to Edit → Preferences, click on the addons tab and search for images to planes addon. Then check the box Import-Export: Import Images as planes to enable it. Then do the keyboard shortcut shift-A click on add image, then images to planes, after that import an image in your files, and it should come up as an image, but the image is a plane. Sorry for the inconvenience.
