You are not the first to ask the question and as some people pointed out, I think this all comes to your own preferences. Personally I’ve been using C4D in the past but I recently switch to Blender once I tested the new 2.8 Beta. I preferred the interface on C4D until I tried the new Blender Beta.
Also, I personally find it easier to search for tutorials for Blender compared to C4D.
The best advice I can give though is that you try both ( considering Blender 2.8 ) and see which one you like best. Nothing prevents you from using both either if you find one feature is easier on one.
Since Blender is free, there is nothing to lose trying it.
