[Blox Guys] Community Thread & Recruitment Opportunities!

*warning: wall of text incoming

Welcome

Hello everyone and thanks for checking out the Blox Guys community and recruitment thread! I’m Choco from the Blox Guys team and I’m hoping that this thread will be the place for you guys to connect with our team and also view recruitment opportunities. If you’re looking for something specific, just skim through the headers and you should be able to find whatever information you are looking for

About us

TL;DR: We wanna be the very best, like no one ever was (guitar).

The Blox Guys aim to become a game studio that creates and maintains great games for the Roblox platform. From frantic PvP game types to social PvE experiences, we try to enable our team members to create amazing content for both the general playing population and Youtubers that are closely tied to the group as well. We operate with a number of game “slots” where different sub-teams focus on developing different games, each with their own focuses and goals.

The general process for each project is to discuss a general framework for each project, determine what core members are needed to fill specific functions, set general goals with some rough dates in mind, and then get into development and release (this being very different for each game).

Just like many of you, Blox Guys looks to improve and grow as we tackle more projects and address the many challenges that exist with making quality releases on Roblox. We want to make sure our team will always be an environment where people can collaborate across the different teams and also build a strong sense of camaraderie. We hope to, in a similar way, also be good community members here in the overall Roblox community and hope to work with many of you!

Recruitment (updated as of 11/1/17)

Currently Blox Guys recruits from: United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, and Slovenia.
TL;DR: Look below for specific openings, reach out if you have questions, and have an evaluation ready if you’re applying for anything.

The team at Blox Guys always are interested in finding new talent to help create great games. If you have any questions or need help with getting started, you can reach out to us in the forums or directly to Reed via discord (Stryker#2802).

Before discussing a position, please know/prepare the following things which we call your evaluation:

  • Three examples of your relevant work for a position (preferred to be solo work, collaborative projects are okay but please explain what your major contributions were)
  • Your country of residence (please check at top of section for which countries we recruit from),
  • And what you would imagine your “base” payment per month (typically this is backed up by evidence of what you’ve made in the past to determine this figure. If you just don’t have any idea at al, we can work with you on this but we want to make sure people have good expectations of what to expect so it’s fair both ways). You should also be ready to sign an NDA.

Below are the list of positions we are actively looking for but feel free to reach out if you think you could be a great fit for something! Some postings may seem general in nature if a game is still in core development or earlier but we are happy to discuss details once an NDA has been signed.

Job Openings

SFX/Audio Lead - Looking for an individual who can source (legally) sound effects and connect to specific events (so the sound of a splash if a person falls in water, as an example).

Final Thoughts

Thanks for checking out the Blox Guys thread! If you have any questions and/or comments, feel free to reply below. We’ll reply on the thread if we do any major updates to the post and we hope to work forward with you soon.

I just thought I’d try to make a more comprehensive post so people could understand what we do a bit better. Also thought it’d be smart to not clog up the forum with tons of blox guys posts in the future. Any feedback on what would make it a bit more approachable? -Choco

While this may not end up being the case for everyone (as we try to make sure we pay people in a way that works for each person), we typically have all of our folks on a base payment and we then pay bonuses for performance. In general, my rule of thumb is that good work gets rewarded with good pay (obviously this is more pronounced once a game generates money). That said, we’d encourage people to be open about their expectations for payments so we can look for the right fit.

As for why people would choose this group, it’s a very stable environment (I mean, as stable as dev work can be). We also try to make sure that everyone has what they need by resources, the most valuable of which are the people in the team who can contribute their talent and expertise to solving problems and collaborating.

In terms of what the owners do, the general answer I can currently provide is that we all do take an active part in making sure the business works. For example, I help more on the development side with particular emphasis on game design elements and generally heading the dev group. -Choco

So who are you guys? I only got information about what you plan to be. Who are you guys and what are some of your previous works? How did you get here?

We’re still newcomers (as of this reply) to the Roblox scene but have created some successful games for Minecraft (Cosmic PvP & Cosmic Prisons) that have managed to make it into the top servers there. We hope to recreate that success and go a step further with Roblox with the flexibility and potential that the platform has to offer. We currently have three games that will hopefully be entering public testing by the end of the month that we are excited to share with everyone.

Why would someone from France or the Netherlands not be allowed to recruit?

A post was merged into an existing topic: Memes, Puns & Meme related GIFs Thread

For legal reasons basically.

I’ve signed contracts for people on this platform before, regardless of where they lived. Why would you not be legally allowed to hire someone like me?

Here you work as a contractor they need to hire lawyers to make a contract for your country which isn’t cheap.

The short version is basically that since we’re a business in the US, we have specific requirements that are unique to each country in terms of treaties and general laws. In order to determine and draft appropriate contracts for each person, we’d need new legal work done to accommodate contractors from new countries. So it is theoretically possible to recruit people outside of this pool, it would just be very costly to do so (so barring unusual circumstances, we typically recruit from this pool of countries and expand only when necessary).

I’m actually a music composer, as well as a sound designer. I think I would be interested in this.

Shoot me over a DM with your discord and I’ll try and get in touch soon!
