This was originally addressed in june and in december of 2024, but this has recently emerged with a new or similar method or bypass to create these items. June Bug Report. December Bug Report.
There’s a bug that allows UGC items to exceed Roblox’s size restrictions, letting creators upload massive accessories that shouldn’t be possible under normal limits. While an item that used this exploit has already been deleted, the method to do it is still out there.
I don’t know exactly how this was done, and as far as I know, no public guides exist explaining the method. However, since the item was on the platform before it got deleted, I’m hoping Roblox staff can look into its data to figure out what happened.
One strange thing about this bug is that the oversized UGC item could not be placed in Roblox Studio as an asset. This made it impossible to inspect it through Studio, which would normally be an easy way to check for issues.
Steps to Reproduce:
The reproduction method was found recently for this and was publicized, if your staff in need of more information, please contact me in PMs.
The item that triggered this report was deleted, but it existed long enough to confirm that the exploit works.
Expected Behavior:
UGC size restrictions should be properly enforced.
Any item that exceeds the allowed limits should be automatically rejected before being published.
UGC items should behave the same way in Studio and in live games, preventing any inconsistencies or exploits.
Actual Behavior:
At least one UGC item successfully bypassed the size limits and was published.
These oversized items appear in games but can’t be placed in Studio, making them harder to investigate.
Additional Notes:
Since the original item is now deleted, Roblox staff should have access to its data to check how it got through moderation.
I don’t have a method to reproduce the bug myself, but it’s important to patch this before it becomes more widespread.
The now deleted UGC asset should be recoverable to help you in fixing this issue. The UGC that abused this glitch first is located here.
Here you can see the UGC asset on an avatar before the item was deleted. This box was disruptive to game visuals.
Thanks for looking into this! Hopefully, this helps Roblox catch and fix the issue before more oversized UGC items start appearing.
Yes, you can’t make similar bug reports because that is considered a duplicate, making both visibility and comments hidden and locked if noticed by the community
I will not be deleting this post. This is because yours shows it with different information for reproduction and references different assets. I have made this post because of the recent involvement being used in an item created by mrflimflam, or Flamingo. This shows different properties of the glitch that could be more disruptive to player experience. This post has similar ones posted in June and in December of 2024. So are those against the devfourm rules even though they are similar? No.
Well i dont see any reason to argue now even if everything is on my side.
(Your bug report just has one more example compared to mine, plus item you showed doesnt use same method as December or July 2024 ones that used float values, instead of vertex group.
Also in reproduction steps i mentioned dynamic head as an optional step to reproduce, but didnt say anything it couldnt be done without it
If you dont trust me that item that was made by flamingo is made via vertex group, then what would you say about that item having 2 Visual Attachments, which is characteristics to an item having vertex group data (just like Layered Clothing). I have confirmed myself and you can check in his video, that this item has more than 2 visible attachments, which are not displayable in item explorer because its an mesh properties
Other than that, i have sent em reproduction steps via staff only messages weeks before it was found by public soo
And again, item you showed in this post, is not the float bug you are refering that are used in December and July 2024, but a vertex group one)
Im glad this got patched so im okay with it, just wanted to clarify everything for you
