Build your own tree house!

No, this is not the generic “build your base and fight X this or X that”. This is even better.

I made a simple game which only took me like two days to make, but it’s nowhere near done yet. Some of you may have already seen a few pictures of it on Twitter. The game looks a bit like a tycoon, but the idea is that you build your own tree house, that’s all. Your building tools however are not the standard building tools. Instead, you’re using a Gui to put down ‘supports’ and ‘connectors’ to build your own tree house. Here are a few pictures of structures that have been made in previous versions.

Some features:
Plots: you can claim your own plot with your own tree and start building on it. That plot is yours and it will stay yours until you leave.
Whitelists: You can allow people to build on your own plot by adding them to the list in the options. Those people can then build on your plot, but they can only delete their own parts, not your. You, however, can delete any placed part on your plot.
Inspecting: You can check any part to see who placed it. This way you can find out who’s the guy messing with your home.

The game also contains a few general features like a delete tool, sprinting, etc.

Things that will be added:
Saving: Nothing is worse than losing all your progress, right?
Axes and a limited supply of wood: Eventually, you will have to gather wood before you can start building. At this moment though you can build with no restrictions.
Paint: You will be able to recolor your wood.

Want to play the game for yourself? You can find it here:

If you have any suggestions or complaints, feel free to post below. :]

I think it is very nice so far

If you are to continue this… I think you should make it so that:

  • You have to buy materials with in-game money
  • You can buy different materials, such as oak wood, spruce wood or stone and so on
  • You can place down furniture

The resize mechanism is really tedious. I recommend adding hotkeys.

You can click and hold the arrow buttons to increase/decrease the size quickly

I’m already planning on adding hotkeys for the different commands. Adding too many hotkeys would make things a bit too complex. There are already players right now who don’t even know how to claim a plot.

But that requires moving the mouse back and forth over and over again to resize, which is the problem. I assume that most treehouses will have hundreds of bricks.

And I didn’t have a problem with mash clicking to increase. I didn’t check, but I just assumed you had a TextBox that allowed you to manually change the size.

I’m… already addicted I think. :uhhh:

But this is pretty cool! I can’t wait till more updates!

10/10 would recommend this game

spent best part of 5 hours building a tree house

Anyone else think they are a cute little Ewok when they play this game?

I had fun !
Want more materials, color and SAVE !!

I call it David Bazooka.

I made a smoother version after this that I didn’t record, but also you can make this kinda stuff.

So there’s lots of room to go crazy.

Neat :swag:

Some sort of after-placement adjustments would be great too - for fine grain control.
(And hey booby-traps for more fun! :imagine: )

All we need is saving and loading

Wow! The tools are really pretty easy to use, and you can create some rather complex structures. Saving will be a big plus for this game. Do you have plans to eventually polish up the GUIs? Right now they are quite functional and do what they’re designed to do very well, but may be lacking in the visual appeal department. That may be a long term goal though. Great work!

Yes, but at the moment the skeleton of the Guis isn’t finished yet. Once the Guis have all the features they need I will polish them and make them more visually appealing.

This will probably not happen, unfortunately. </3
The way is works is when you put down a part, it is welded to all the parts it touches. This mean that it won’t be easy to make a tool to adjust some settings after you’ve placed a part.

Maybe when I’m feeling like it. :stuck_out_tongue:

This isn’t going to happen. You’re building a tree house after all and tree houses are made out of wood. I am planning on adding a shop later on though which sells furniture and such (inspired by ZacAttackk and NWSpacek). Those items will be made out of other materials so you might want to use those for decoration, but the default building tools will always be using wood.
