Trying to improve my building as a newer builder and this is the first one I’ve made. Any tips to make it more detailed? (I tried textures but when you scale them up they look weird, atleast the ones I used)!
I am not quite sure what style you are going for or what exactly the building is supposed to resemble so my main tip would be to make sure players see what it is and appreciate it.
To make it more detailed: You could add different layers of roofs, again, i dont know if it’s supposed to fit into a tight plotted city or a flower garden. Adding windows and sticking to only a handful of colors/materials for your pallette would be great. I’d recommend to start with a light base color and then expand with darker parts all around your builds, for example at the bottom, adding a downspout, and a bigger roof. Also, try to avoid most textures besides brick, concrete and (smooth) plastic for your base/main/ biggest parts. Marble is great for accents or indoor wall pieces or floors.
Remember, (usually) the more parts used, the better the build will look. If something looks too flat or simple then it could be great to just add a more complex design to that designated area.
Good luck!
I was going for more of a cobblestone/brick type theme (like a brick house) with multiple layers. But I guess I’ll use a different texture and play around with it. I was wondering if I should stick to 4 colors or pick 10 and i thought 10 would be better but I guess not. Don’t know what a downspout means and I’ll take the advice about looking too flat. Thanks!
Edit: I misread the texture part, my bad. I know what a down spout is too so I’ll have to make that later.
Using reference pictures from google is a great way to have a guideline when working on a realism-ish build. You will notice details and implement them in your build while also sticking with a overall natural looking design. You don’t have to recreate a building but it is a great way to improve your building skills and understanding of certain structures. I personally use reference images all the time, definitely recommend!
