Building Editor Plugin

This is a plugin that allows you to quickly create buildings with separate interior and exterior walls, and cut holes in the walls for windows and doors.

Installation

Download the plugin here

Quick guide

To starting using the building editor, open the plugin by clicking the “Building Editor” button in the plugins menu.

You can then select 1 of 3 options in the Building Editor window.

Create new building will create a new single story building without any windows or doors.

Create preset building will open a menu that allows you to configure a few options then generate a building that has windows, doors and stairs depending on the options you select.

Edit existing building allows you to modify a building previously created using this plugin. It will select the building based on your current selection.

Vertices

The small white balls on each corner are the building vertices. You can click them to move them and the building will update accordingly. You can shift + click to select multiple vertices at once

Splitting walls

If you select 2 or more vertices connected by the same wall, then click “Split Wall” in the building options menu, it will create a new vertex in the middle of the vertices you have selected.

Cutouts

If you select a model in workspace, for example a window or a door, then select “Place Cutout” in the building options menu, you can click anywhere on a wall to cut a hole in it and place a clone of that model into the building.

Greyboxing

When you generate a building via “Create preset building” in the plugin, it will replace any parts you have selected in workspace with a building. This can be useful when you have your map greyboxed and want to quickly generate buildings.

Issues

This plugin is still in early development, if you come across any issues please report them here so they can be addressed asap!

Eh, not too sure about this one. Maybe if the buildings were more detailed it would be more appealing. It’s good for beginners learning how to build though.

Personally not a massive fan of this but I could see why someone may want to use it. I just feel like the buildings are very basic and have no characteristics to it at all.

The only issue with this plugin’s UI that I see is that the buttons are almost unintelligible:

You might want to work on your handwriting UI skills.
This only happens when the plugin’s window is stretched out.

Another problem with this plugin is that it uses Unions, which do not load properly in game on some devices. They are also about 50% slower than parts in terms of performance. They also cause studio to crash randomly when editing unions.

It would be nice if you could change materials for the walls, floor, and ceiling from the plugin itself.

The plugin also does not respect the undo command.

If you increase wall height after a preset, the stairs do not change:

You also cannot do this when you create it.

How do I get inside this building?

If I split a wall with cutouts, this happens:

If I move the new vertice or any vertice:

Where’d the walls go?

In addition, if you open the plugin for the first time, you need to grant inject permissions and restart studio. The plugin completely breaks if you don’t.

I wouldn’t recommend this plugin until all the issues above are fixed.

However, it seems like a good concept.
