Building showcase, Ran out of ideas

I am trying to build something related to Alice in wonderland since it is my favorite movie,
It should be something that looks like it came out of the movie, like Wonderland Grove in the Egg Hunt of 2018 but with more details, I built a table with food & cups of tea on it, But I’m out of ideas!
I don’t want the map to be that big, since I prefer quality in quantity, how can I improve this place?

It’s my first post in the DevForum, If I didn’t place this post in the correct topic or anything please tell me.

Thanks!

The terrain looks pretty generic, I don’t know if you are planning on changing it but if you don’t I’d recommend you do;

As you said;

This is probably the best way to get inspired, wander around the map of Wonderland Grove whilst working on your map in studio in a different tab.

The terrain in EH2018 is pretty damn advanced if you are able to imitate that terrain, it will do aesthetic wonders for your game.

Thank you for your response!
Yes, I am planning on changing the terrain, it was just to put the models and have a basic environment to work on, about this:

Thank you for this suggestion I will check the game for some inspiration.
Unfortunately I’m not very good with terrain, this is why I wanted to do a close space,
This is the area I wanted to work on:

Area

Those parts will be invisible

But I’m unsure on what to do in such a small area and out of it, I’m not very good at putting things together.

Try to work on the terrain, add some colour to it, blend it in with the scene of the table. Also try consider using more colour. One thing I would say is to take inspiration from alice in wonderland.

Good luck with the development! :star:

Here’s a couple of ideas worth considering:

  • Connect the gate to a longer fence
  • Spread some 3D models of flowers around the grass
  • Add some bumps in the terrain to feel more natural
  • Maybe model some vibrant trees based on the Egg Hunt like the poster above said
  • Use different terrain materials and colours for the ground

Keep up the detail!

Whenever I develop something terrain related, I just put random things here and there E;g a mountain, a river, a dune… and figure out what works best and what works not.

Looking at the picture right now these are my idea’s that pop inside my head;

The Bright red lines painted on the map walls could be changed into steep terrain walls.

You can decorate these walls by creating a waterfall ( dark blue lines ) which causes a small stream to appear that runs across your map.

The lighter green lines I thought of putting a lighter shade of grass, you can do this via the leafy grass terrain and playing with the colour properties under the terrain tab in the explorer.

The grey round-y lines can be rock formations.

Lastly, the yellow lines could be terrain that is inaccessible to the player to enter, thus only being visually viewable. you can lock it off from players using that nice gate you created and with the help of cancollide invisible block.

If you do this right which is hard because the playable map is small, the player can feel a sense of immersion, have the feeling that the map goes way beyond from what is actually the case.

And reeeaaallly lastly, but highly recommended, play with the lighting. a costum made lighting is always appreciated.

Thank you!
The steep terrain walls idea was very good for a closed environment like this, although, I wanted to have a lot of Alice’s in wonderland “vibes” so I opted for some bush walls like it is part of the queen’s garden or something like that. but, I really like the other ideas and I will soon try to make them, here’s an update:

Updates

I made a hole that could have been dug by the white rabbit.

Thank you for your suggestions,

In particular I really liked this one, but I wanted to keep the Alice In Wonderland vibe, so I opted to go for high bushes as walls.

Decent so far, but some things I’d suggest:

  • Add a gate perimeter
  • Fix the textures… the shadows on the chairs look a bit weird.
  • Add some lighting - Roblox studio has some great lighting features that help stuff stand out a lot.
  • Add a background/terrain around the grassy area

But yeah, not bad.

I made the chairs with blender because of this the shadows are a bit weird:

Also there is lighting, but the graphic of roblox studio is set by default the lowest option… so you can’t really tell the difference, but yeah, Thank you for the suggestions! I’m looking to improve in making environments. :smiley: :+1:

Edit:
Here’s the difference between the game without the lighting options I’ve set and with.

So far so good! However I’d change the material for the perimeter fence.

What would you change it to? I tried every material but no one gives the Bush vibe :confused:, maybe custom textures? :thinking:

Yeah - I was thinking continuing the type of gate you have, just make it into a full-size fence instead.

Oh, the fact is that I wanted to keep it this way because of the movie, there’s the red queen’s garden with a lot of bushes and stuff :confused:

Ah. Yeah, that looks good then!
