Byron Bay Alpha Tutorial

As Australia’s flagship game is currently in Group-wide Alpha, we are releasing a simple quick start guide for civilians to guide their way through our new game. We recommend users read the entirety of this document before commencing their journey to Byron Bay, as the game presently does not have an in-game tutorial. This should allow users to get started straight away, earning AUD, and subsequently buying their first car and house. It will also inform users on gaining employment in core departments, such as the Police Force, Defence Force, Fire Service, etc.

Also be sure to follow some of our official accounts and databases, ranging from development showcases and plans to our moderation trello:

Roleplay Rules

These rules are subject to change at any time, all attempts may be made to notify of changes.

  1. LTAA/RTAA
Leaving the game or resetting your character to avoid arrest from law enforcement will not be tolerated at all. Your first offence will result in banning from the server, further offences will have your account banned.
  1. Loud/Offensive
Any music which a moderator deems to be too loud or offensive in any way must be immediately stopped. Further offences after a warning will result in a kick and then server bans after that. Music which has bypassed the Roblox filter will have you server banned and possibly account banned.
  1. Roblox Terms of Service
The official Roblox TOS can be found here. Any person who breaks these will be reported to Roblox and possibly account banned.
  1. Metagaming
Using outsider information (admin commands, exploits, glitching etc) to gain an advantage over another user will result in you being server banned.
  1. New Life Rule
The New Life Rule or NLR, means that when a person dies in game, they and the person who caused the death forget all memories around 10 minutes before their death. The only exception to this is if law enforcement have died trying to arrest someone they do not have to follow the NLR.
  1. Spawn Killing
Killing another player within an unreasonable distance of their spawn point and or an unreasonable time after they have spawned will result in a server ban for the first offence and then an account ban thereafter.
  1. Moderator Discretion
Moderators have final discretion over all roleplay matters in game. Moderators may determine if the offence is worthy of a kick, server ban or account ban regardless of what these rules pre-define.
  1. Exploiting/Glitching
Where it has been found a person has knowingly and purposely exploited the game through any means, or they have purposely glitched the game to advantage or disadvantage themselves or another player they will be server banned or account banned depending on severity
  1. Value Your Life
Each player must play in a way which values their life, this involves not going on rampages, sprees and other situations where an individual’s life would be put at risk for no apparent or no explainable reason, consequences for this and the extent that this is enforced is very dependent on moderator discretion.
  1. Loopholes
Instances where a moderator can see a person has clearly found a loophole or exploit within any set of rules and a player is seen to be bypassing or violating a rule as a cause of that, the player may be server banned.
Main UI Walkthrough

Static Information UI

Upon joining Byron Bay, you will immediately notice the Static Information UI in the bottom left of your screen. This simple UI will inform you of your location in-game, your Cash* and Bank Balance*, the speed limit (km/h) in the area and the current version of Byron Bay:

As its title implies, the UI is static and present during gameplay, though an option to minimise it, should it be a hindrance, is available by clicking on “Minimise” in the UI’s bottom left corner.

*Bank Balance is where your income is deposited, and can be spent on large purchases like Houses and Cars. Cash will need to be withdrawn at an ATM for smaller purchases, particularly illegal ones, such as firearms.

Phone UI

The Phone UI is where the most of your attention will be directed at. It is visible when your ‘Phone’ tool, located in your inventory, is equipped.

The UI is flexible in that it can be moved around, by holding your left mouse button, so that it is not a hindrance when equipped.

When the phone is equipped, your character will display a phone to other users, indicating that you are on your phone.

There are two available “First Jobs” for users who are not in team-based groups (see table below). The free-to-play jobs are as a Pizza Chef or Delivery Driver.

Team Jobs

Team jobs are better paid, but rely on you joining a sub-group of AU | Australia. These groups are not free to join however, and will require either an application, or attendance at a recruitment drive. It is important to monitor these subgroups, as well as join their corresponding group communications. Below is a table with corresponding salaries, as well as hyperlinks to the relevant sub-groups to facilitate your enquiries.

Pizza Chef Any $15 +$1 per pizza made

Making In-Game Purchases

Now that you have a steady income in-game, you can use your money to make in-game purchases. Alternatively, you could purchase in-game money through your Phone’s Store App to purchase costlier goods.

ATM Cash Withdrawals

ATMs are scattered throughout the Byron Bay map. They allow users to withdraw from their Bank Balance, so they can make small or illegal purchases. Unlike their Bank Balance, cash does not save and you will lose it if you die. An easy way to find an ATM is to locate a petrol station. Every single petrol station has an ATM to facilitate our Fuel System (see Fuel below)

To activate the ATM, you need to click on its screen, whereby a GUI will appear prompting you to insert the amount you wish to withdraw, or it will give you an alternative way to transfer, should you not want to use your Bank app in your phone to do the same.

To get rid of the ATM GUI, simply walk away from the ATM.

Illegal Dealers

Like ATMs, Illegal Dealers are located throughout the map typically in built-up areas, such as the townships of Byron Bay, Nimbin and Gold Shores, typically in secluded areas. These dealers sell firearms, explosives to rob banks, and other weapons which can deal damage.

At the moment, the illegal dealer presently has a pistol firearm and a knife.

As the weapons illegal dealers sell are inherently illegal, it is important to avoid being searched or displaying your firearm in public to avoid unnecessary police attention. It is also important to consider Roleplay Rules before shooting anyone.

Other stores, like cafes, Tony’s Knick-Knacks, Sparky’s Pyrotechnics, for example, use this same UI process to purchase other items (such as food, protest signs, and fireworks respectively). These items though, are not illegal.

Buying Cars & Spawning Them

There are currently two available car dealerships in Byron Bay, one is a second-hand car dealer, and the other is a high-class luxury car dealer. Both operate under the same principle, with different prices for different vehicles of course. Additionally, emergency services and the defence force will have their own available vehicles, but these are team-only and free of charge. Cars are PERMANENT purchases, meaning your cars are a one-time purchase that will be able to be spawned in any server.

When you go to spawn a car, you will be given a preview of that car. Below that preview, you will be given 8 colour options. Simply click on the colour that best suits your tastes, and click Spawn.

When you enter your car, you will notice a fuel UI on the bottom of the gauges, as well as a Lock GUI and Car Radio on the right side. Locking your car will mean no one can sit in the drivers seat other than you, the owner. The Car Radio will allow you to put in a music ID to play in-game, but will require the purchase of a gamepass.

Fuel System

Now that you own a car, hopefully, you will need to monitor your fuel consumption.

Houses

Part of the Byron Bay experience is buying your own home. Simply locate houses, or a mansion, if you’re rich, and walk up to its front door.
