C4D Rigs | 2.0 package

Hello fellow GFX Designers. I am here to post this topic because I want to widespread my GFX design into a broad spectrum of characters. As of now, I am looking for C4D rigs for the 2.0 package. I preferably would not like it with bones. If anyone has anything they can send to me, I’ll happily use it. I already have the blocky rig, 3.0 woman rig, and I found a resource for the 3.0 man rig. Please help!

Why not just pose characters with the animation editor and put them in C4D?

It’s easier that way, plus you wont be limited to just one rig. The animation editor works with anything really.

I didn’t know that was a thing, could you send me a link of a video of someone doing it?

No problem, here you go!

Just watch up until 3:00 ( The rest of it is Blender stuff. )

I personally prefer the animation editor for these reasons.

  1. More easier to pose. ( You can make a complex pose in studio in 2-3 minutes. )

  2. You can use R15, Rthro, Character Packages, anything you want instead of being limited to R6 or 3.0.

  3. Easy to import into C4D or Blender.

  4. Able to pose over 5 character models easily instead of spending 10-12 minutes per avatar trying to bend limbs and add objects to them.

Here’s some examples of the GFX i made using the editor to help.

I used R15 in all of these instead of R6.

I’m not saying you have to use this method, but if you’re interested in making thumbnails on a larger scale ( i.e having over 10 characters in one thumbnail or having Rthro characters in it. ) you should try experimenting with it.

Like posing an R15 character with the animation editor and importing it into C4D to see how it looks.

( Note that they just added an auto-pause function that prevents you from uploading a modified rig, which is what the plugin below is for. )

When I try to use the animator for anything R15, it says “Rig Error(s) Detected: This rig contains multiple parts which share the same name. Please give unique names to all parts.”

Another problem is that you only have 1 joint on the 3.0, so this doesn’t work.

@orangewarrior78, didn’t reply on your post so I’m quoting.

Weird… i’ll post an instruction manual giving a full-detail on the process later on.

I’ll have screenshots and everything on it.

Do you have this plugin btw? I usually use this to put R15 characters in studio.

I use that plugin for all. I fixed the error, but this still doesn’t work for my needs. I need to be able to bend the limbs, this just lets me rotate.

DM me on Discord, tripp#6572 to make this easier.

Yeah, i’m getting the error as well…

It could be a new bug since they updated the editor again today.

I dont have discord but i’ll talk to one of the developers who helped script the plugin again, he’s actively responding to feedback on posts luckily.

Okay, after talking with him. I found the answer to the problem.

There shouldnt be any other problems after this. Just pose, anchor with the anchor plugin and import.

Alright, the only problem is that there aren’t joints other than the whole arm. Here’s an attachment: https://gyazo.com/00d115f3ebba07babd1b60ba275737f3 (click the link for a GIF)

That’s because it’s an R6 version, the method i showed you is more for R15 or Rthro…or everything else to pose in thumbnails.

For example, if someone wants a thumbnail that has all Rthro characters, that’s what the animation editor’s for.

It’s very hard to make a thumbnail like that in Blender or C4D compared to R6 which may explain why there’s rarely any thumbnails on the DevForum with them.

Bending limbs from an Rthro character is extremely difficult in both Blender and C4D, what’s worse is that there’s no tutorials on Youtube about things like this.

That’s where the editor comes in, it’s meant to pose more harder and more complex character packages.

But because R6 is nearly 14 years old, you just cant alter it that much in Roblox Studio compared to more newer character packages.

The editor can still rotate R6 limbs, but because of how old it the package is…there’s just no way for it to bend limbs like the more newer packages.

Your joint issue is one of the reasons why most front page games have left it behind completely…there’s a lot of limitations on what can be done with it.

Even Roblox doesnt show R6 anywhere anymore.

But, if you want to use the editor and still give your thumbnails an R6 feel. You can just use the editor to pose R15 avatars.

Again, using the editor all the time isnt a top priority if you’re used to working with R6. If it’s easier for you to not use the editor at all, that’s fine.

But it’s very helpful to GFX artists who are hired to work on thumbnails that dont just have R6.

I hope my advice helped you in some way, if you have any questions about the Animation Editor still…i’ll answer them. I can see your work improving in the future no matter what happens.

Okay, soooo. It looks weird when bending limbs.

Sometimes, limbs can look weird when you’re bending them. But finding that perfect position to bend them in makes them look normal. It takes patience sometimes.

Any clothing the model wears hides anything like that 90% of the time anyway.

But if it does look weird in the final render, using a smear tool to cover any off-looking parts does help a lot.

This method just doesn’t work for me.

Well, if it doesn’t that’s alright.

Everyone does have different ways in finishing what they do.

Plus there’s not a lot of people that use this method…and they are still trying to fix bugs on both the editor and the avatar import plugin so it’s understandable.

But the main reason that it’s this difficult is probably because it’s your first time trying something like this, these plugins didnt cause me any issues when i practiced. So it’s probably twice as hard for you.

If it’s just not working out because of this, it’s probably better to just go back with your method instead of burning yourself out trying something you’ve never done before.

I do still think it’s possible to master this considering that i didnt know anything about GFX before back in October until i found a tutorial that used this method ( which is now deleted for some reason), but right now…it’s not the best time with everything being buggy and all.
