WINTER UPDATE 2021 // PART 1
GAMEMODE UPDATES
Gamemodes are now in Caliber! To start us off, we are introducing team deathmatch. In the future, we will implement entirely unique gamemodes, so be excited for that!
- Round system implemented
- Top information bar displays the current gamemode and time left in match
- Top information bar score counters now are functional
- Upon round-ending, a screen displays showing defeat or victory, as well as the team scores
- Team Deathmatch gamemode added
- Free For All gamemode added
- Snow Ballin’ gamemode added
NEW WEAPONS
Ah yes, weapons. Who doesn’t want new weapons? You don’t? Too bad.
- ASH-12 added to weapon pool
- PPK added to weapon pool
- Remington 870 revamped
- DWX added to weapon pool
- M4A1 added to weapon pool
- AS-VAL added to weapon pool
- STG-44 added to weapon pool
- Sledgehammer added to weapon pool
- Snowball added only to Snow Ballin’ gamemode
UI CHANGES
We’ve put a lot of thought into how we should change the UI to fit the game better. We decided to go for a more sleek look, which will help you get the information you need in-game quickly without interfering with gameplay.
- The “orange corners” are more defined, and now resample more efficiently
- Statistics, such as kills and deaths, are now stored in the leaderboard instead of the HUD
- Ammo and health information both have bars and text to provide information.
- Text position, size, and colors modified on HUD, top information bar, and leaderboard
- Leaderboard feels less buggy to use
- HUD, leaderboard, and top information bar have a fresh new appearance
- UI images compressed in favor of memory
- WIP menu screens, including for weapon progression, shop, credits, and more.
- Current menu screens have a fresh new look
- Team indicators added
- Player name tags added
- New graphical text logo
- Menu button outlines changed to corner highlights, and the image now uses 9-slice methods to improve visual side of things
- Menu UI buttons have fade in/out effects for strokes based on mouse interaction
WINTER THEME
What’s a winter update without winter theming? That’s ridiculolus!
- Menu scene now has a holiday-fied background
- All maps in rotation now have a winter theme
- All maps include snow
- Procedural clouds are now more dense to match snow
BUG FIXES
Let’s face it: Caliber was incredibly broken. We noticed, and put as much time as possible making sure a majority of these bugs are squashed!
- Fixed mossburg inspect sounds missing
- Fixed an issue that caused the screen to flash red when healing
- Completely fixed an issue that caused players to not be able to move
- Fixed a bug where the death spectate would be all over the place
- Fixed characters having down-facing arms
- Fixed an issue where maps would collide with menu scene
- Fixed issues with the raygun cylinder no longer being transparent
- Fixed an issue where the death sound would play when returning to menu
- Fixed an issue where going back to menu would cause your character to continue to exist in the world, stiffened and without the ability to be damaged
- Other various bug fixes
OPTIMIZATIONS
You can’t have wins if your don’t have the frames to win the games. Many optimizations have been delivered to maximize how fast you run the game!
- Heavy general lag fixes
- Adaptive Physics Stepping is now enabled
- Interpolation throttles on the server-side
- Client animators are now throttled over long distances
- Maps optimized via performant builder optimization and programmatic fidelity changes
- Fixed an issue where resetting your character would keep you in first person
- Fixed lag on Verge and Storage by removing all unions
- Fixed lag increasing over time
POLISHES AND CHANGES
Guess what’s better than things that work? Things that work better. Lots of general improvements are made to pretty much everything. New content is also added!
- Hit-reg improvements
- Anti-cheat improvements
- Deagle mag tap sound remade
- Various sound volume mixing
- Slide camera vertical movement for entering slide takes 0.1 seconds less
- Sprinting and sliding increase field of view, and to accommodate this, default field of view decreased from 85 to 80
- New death SFX
- New scoping SFX
- More dramatic damage lighting effects
- Enemy health bars turn more read based on how low their HP is
- Menu depth of field enabled
- Backend changes to begin supporting progression in the future
- Backend changes to begin saving progress in the future (e.g. inventory)
- Different maps have different lighting settings
- The tab-in leaderboard now shows when a player is in the menu
- Sliding is immensely improved
- New map added to developer-only rotation
- Swamp re-added to map rotation
- Chat messages from the server now give information on gamemodes and other events
- The color behind the player on the leaderboard now changes based on their team affiliation
- Memory stat label removed
- Instead of killing all players and keeping them in-game, players return to menu upon round-end
- Cinematic camera in early stages. Toggle using
Shift + P
- Dimmed menu background
- Changed UI update sound
- You can no longer shoot weapons at the end of the round
- Round length extended
- New viewmodel sleeves
- New recoil system overhaul, it now springs up and down
- Added bullet holes
- Weapon bobbing has spring-based transition to make transitions not sudden
- Attempting to slide mid-air no longer slows/crouches, but instead queues slide
- New raygun viewmodel sprint pose
