Can a game have Robux as an in-game currency?

Hi there,
I was thinking about making a complex FPS game with global multiplayer (servers sharing player instances with each other), but I’ve run into an invisible wall.
My question is: “Can you create a game where it uses Robux as the main currency?”

If you didn’t know by now, Robux is a form of currency used by Roblox that can be used to buy gamepasses, developer products, etc.

My game would be like a simulator of an average Chicago citizen fighting each other primarily with guns, and I want the marketplace to be utilized by players (similar to how please donate does it, except you can only use gamepasses for things such as clothing, guns, and food).

Thank you.

You can, but… uh, why? Not a lot of people will play in such game. Who will pay real money for anything in game? If you want to increase your income in such way, then don’t try. It’s worst idea I have seen about how to monetize game…

don’t worry, the game will have a second currency (F$)

1 R$ = 100 F$

there’s a label for games like that… pay to win

let’s say for example, a grenade (random item off the top of my head) costs 500 F$.

Grenade:

  • 500 F$
  • 5 R$

say you can hold 20 grenades. that’s 10,000 F$ and 100 R$
that right there, is a p2w advantage.

sure, non-paying players can still buy grenades, but at a lower rate. They have to grind for it, that takes time & resources.

there are a lot of people out there that would pay 100 R$ for 20 grenades instead of grinding for 10,000 F$ and at that point, the p2w players have more grenades than the non p2w making any battle unfair.
(because the p2w players can spam 20 grenades or more if they keep on spending, while the non p2w players might only have 10)

not the best example, but you get the idea…

for any game involving combat, making it p2w will just make the majority of players leave, never play again, and find a different game.

the game will have job systems such as a hitman and a streetswipper + the jobs will pay fair (2500 F$) and R$ is an optional currency

the job systems are created by players, so if your job is to kill people (streetswipper) then you should have armor, guns and grenades for free as a result.

if they get those for free, whats the point of F$ & robux as a 2nd currency?

well, you get paid if you did your job.
you can use both F$ and R$ for things such as ammo, clothing (will stay permanently in your character customization), guns, explosives, etc.
i’m planning to add a food system and healthcare system so the game will be more realistic.

you can share those but not R$ (for now)

(you get paid by the player that holds the job offer)

so, if I’m understanding this right:

player A creates job > player B accepts job > player B is given free weapons & does said job > player A pays player B for doing job (which probably varies depending on how much F$ player A has) > player B can spend the earned F$ on ammo, clothing, guns, explosives, etc (which I assume would be used for jobs…?)…

and player A & B can spend F$ on food & healthcare in the future…

and with all of that, both player A & B can spend R$ on ammo, clothing, etc…?

  • are the free weapons weakened?
  • are the weapons bought, stronger than the free ones given?
  • would food & healthcare be used to give boosts? (like replenishing health in the middle of a job)
  • and can you directly buy F$ with R$?
  1. Free weapons are there because Player A bought them.
Each weapon has its own pros and cons, depending on the job, so Player A must purchase wisely.
Weapons purchased by Player B have the same status as ones purchased by Player A, there is no difference between free and purchased weapons.

  2. Food & Healthcare would be a hard task.
If you’re hungry, make sure you have enough food (which can be found in urban areas) to stay focused, the food does have an expiration date based on the in-game date so use them wisely.
Healthcare is a lot more difficult, you would have to either find bandages and first aid kits to deal with minor injuries such as a pistol shot or go to the hospital to get yourself patched up for major injuries such as a lost limb.

  3. No, you cannot buy F$ with R$.

if that’s the case, then it’s relatively fair :+1:

You can get F$ naturally from character RNG.
The well-being of the character is also RNG affected, but RNG actually converts to a Pseudo-RNG depending on how many times you’ve died.

For example, if you have gotten a fit character for the first time and you’ve died about 7 times, then you would’ve gotten a similar fit character mixed in with previous character bodies.

Of course, you can delete your current save to create a true fresh start.
