Very often in #help-and-feedback there is constantly people calling themselves “dumb” or “stupid” or even “retarded” after receiving a solution. They are basically insulting themselves and I am wondering if I should be flagging these more often because self-deprecation in a professional forum is just not productive, mature or useful
Hmm, I’m not sure. They could mean it as a joke in which it should be fine, if they are serious then, I’m not sure.
They’re technically considered spam as it doesn’t contribute anything meaningful and bloats the thread.
I personally flag posts like this, as it doesn’t create a nice mood for the OP or for me really.
It just goes to show that they are in a way, being lazy. If they say they are dumb when the answer is ‘obvious’, then it shows that they weren’t really trying and cannot bring themselves to be productive and learn on their own.
My opinion
I always look at posts as historical records and how they will be viewed years in the future.
If I see a post that I don’t think would contribute anything meaningful to the discussion from someone reading the post at that time I would generally flag it as spam.
On a side note, if I saw this sorta post in lounge I would generally consider it fine.
Honestly imo I don’t think people saying that they are dumb is them being lazy and not trying. Sometimes people have a mind block and they try and try and can’t get anywhere until someone tells something and they are like. “Oh man I should of thought of it I feel so dumb I should go do that now!”. I think that reporting someone like that could be case to case situations because it could be a expression or a thing that isn’t needed for a forum post as spam.
