Can I have voice lines saying "Hell" and "Jesus Christ" in my game?

My game has numerous NPCs and is story guided. My voice actors want to put their personalities into the characters’ scripts, and I agree. I want to know if it’s appropriate to have the words “Hell” and “Jesus Christ” in a game.

It can say hell but I suggest not saying Jesus Christ. Maybe “Cheese and rice” (I know cheesey, but roblox is strict) No pun intended :joy:

Sadly that’d completely ruin the aesthetic of the game. Can I know why Jesus Christ isn’t allowed but hell is?

Hell is just safer, but I just tested it and you can use Jesus Christ, its not tagged on roblox so they must not care. If they ban you for it, just appeal your ban for that given reason!

Just because something isn’t blocked on the filter does not mean “Roblox doesn’t care”, they simply may not have the phrase blocked yet. Don’t use what is/isn’t filtered via the filter as an indicator of what is allowed to be spoken/shown in a game.

It kind of matters what the game is about. If your character only says it one time, then I think you will be fine. But if have multiple times, your game might be taken down. Aswell as you might get banned. I personally wouldn’t risk it. Hell is allowed though.

For JC I’d do something like Cheezits Rice

Would these words be used as curse words or is it a part of the game (example: “Go this way to Hell” or “Jesus Christ saves. You go to heaven”)

In some games the word “Hell” is completely fine but it depends on the game your making like if your making a game where you choose where they go in the afterlife then that would be ok, but putting “Jesus christ” isn’t so much of a great idea since there are Christian players who may be offended by that and cause them to stay away from your game. Hope this helped you!

In my own opinion, I suggest you not add swear words or words that take Gods name in vain. As this does offend many people.

I’d suggest messaging a staff member, if they say it is okay then just screenshot it if you do face consequences and if they say it’s not okay then don’t do it.

For some of the religious, “Jesus Christ” is quite and indeed rude (Roblox may not like that, obviously). I don’t see how hell would be blocked, surely you can come up with an alternative?

If you have to ask then it probably isn’t allowed. In your case through, this is a very grey area because I can see situations where these phrases could be considered as fine and some where they aren’t. Just to be on the safe side I wouldn’t put these phrases in.

You should consider how much these phrases will benefit with the story of your game. Would not having these phrases affect your game at all? Do you have any alternative ways of getting what you want across without using these phrases? What age rage is your game aimed at and does having these phrases fit nicely with this age rage?

you could either risk it,
or you could just make alternatives so that there isn’t the chance of getting banned.

For “Hell” I would say your choice, assuming you’re talking about the place and not using it as swearing. For “Jesus Christ” not sure if Roblox would be against this or not (I’m sure they won’t take a game down or even ban someone simply for this) I would personally not have a problem putting either of these words in my game, assuming their used properly (as in, not using the Lord’s name in vain, and using Hell as the name of a place and not a swear.)

If “badass” is allowed on the site, then I’d wager hell also is.

Jesus Christ is not a swear.

“Jesus Christ” is not supposed to be used in a ROBLOX Game. This is not supported by ROBLOX because they don’t want religious phrases being used in certain ways. E.g. Let’s just say that I was running and I saw a scrape, saying “Jesus Christ!” would not be allowed.

If I were to go to church and see Jesus Christ, then you shouldn’t say “Wow, It’s Jesus Christ.”, You should say “Wow, there’s Jesus.”

There are ways to put personalities into characters without using either of these words. There is no official statement on use of these words but I don’t assume staff will take kindly to their use. Better not to risk needing to redo things and get moderated for it.

Do what you will though, not our business what you do in your game. Ultimately this matter is between you and moderation.

I don’t think Moderation would get too worried about it. If you think it’s your best option for purveying character personality, go for it. The best advice is generally that if you need to ask if something is okay, its best to avoid using it if its not too great of a benefit. When you submit the audio file you’ll just find out the hard way if its not alright, if it’s your first infraction it will probably be worth the risk.

Your game can say “Hell” depending on what context you’re using it in, “Jesus Christ” however isn’t blocked by site development but it’s not recommended because you could possibly have the game itself shutdown and you’d have to fix the script of the parts that says is inappropriate or you’d be warned plus the thing said before.
