Can my game make money?

I’ve recently completed work on my game, which I’ve called Voxel Builder, and I’m wondering if you all think that the game, as it is right now, could be profitable.

I’m apprehensive about releasing it (as that would cost quite a bit of money), so I would like some opinions on the game before I start spending valuable Robux on advertisements. If you don’t think that the game will succeed, please tell me why so that I can improve it.

hmm, yes, gamepasses. Use game passes.

Maybe some dev products as well. Like 50 money 10 money etc

I have thought about that, but I’m not really sure how one would implement that in a game about building.

Well, if you dont know what to put, gamepasses are the right way to go!

Game is pretty good, 2 things though.

  1. The guis are really big, so it’s hard to build for me.

  2. The transparency slider is very unresponsive if you move the bar quickly

The game is pretty well made otherwise, you can just add some more gamepasses and you should do well.

I followed your advice and downsized the UI a bit, and the transparency slider is now fixed. Thank you so much for your feedback

You’d make a little, but don’t expect a dev ex able amount. Games that are more unique are much more prone to getting popular and making dev ex able amounts.

Alright, so first, the UI. While the UI isn’t bad, it’s a little too simple (in some parts at least such as the shop), it has this (icons are too big, the same size as the button, and they’re quite stretched):

and the build menu can be quite inefficient, since it can be quite slow if you wanted to change shape and/or color quickly for example, to fix this you could add keybinds or separate the menus and make their access easier (have color changer in the bottom corner, shape changer in the other, etc) and if the UI is actually intended to remain open, then try making it smaller since it covers the screen and doesn’t let you build very well, and lastly try experimenting with other fonts!

And last thing, I found some stuff:

  • Don’t think this is intentional, but you can place blocks like this:

  • If you disable snap to grid it positions like this (relative to the block’s center):
    image

  • UI colors can mix a little:

  • The transparency slider keeps moving when you release the mouse outside of the slider button.

  • The material menu is missing the new materials!

  • There is no autosave (this one is optional I guess)

  • The icon and thumbnail could have a better font, and the icon isn’t too attractive in my opinion, and the text on it is too small!

Even if I might be looking too deep into this, this is some honest feedback, I hope it helps! and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

EDIT: I forgot this post was meant to ask if the game is profitable, which I think kinda is, it just needs a little more polishing like I specified already and maybe a little more monetization!

I really appreciate the help you’ve given me here. I’m definitely beginning to see why people say that developers are bad at finding bugs in their own games. I do have one question, though. What do you mean by “too simple” for the UI?

By the UI being too simple I mean, like for example, the shop, it’s too empty and bland, too much empty space and it doesn’t look very appealing, which it should since it’s the shop, for that you could maybe add descriptions for the items, icons, attractive colors, etc.

as it seems others are giving you advice on aspects of your game, I’ll give you some tips on the money aspect.

Why do you need to spend money to release your game? Is it the advertising?
Thing is, I sometimes see people spend maybe a hundred bucks for 10,000 or so robux on an ad that often just gets wasted. They think that all they need is a couple hundred robux and success would be in their grasp.

In my opinion, you should temper your expectations with the income your game will generate, and also don’t buy some ad thinking its some sort of silver bullet to success. It is not.

My advice is to just work on the game and let it accumulate players. start a community discord or some other community so that players can discuss the game and give feedback. for me, positive feedback from players is a major driving force for motivation.

From this point, even occasional gamepass purchases and premium payouts will outweigh that comparatively measly 10,000 robux. I think a good measure for whether or not your game has what it takes to be somewhat popular is that it should start generating a noticeable revenue even for it’s size. From that point, maybe advertising isnt a bad idea.

Oh yeah, by the way, even if your game does see moderate success, you would be getting quite a bit of robux, but still probably not much value real money wise, which is why I tell you to temper your expectations.

Thing about game development is that we have all picked a field that is stressful and makes little to no money. If you want money, you are better off working a minimum wage job.

Therefore, what drives us developers isn’t money. It is passion.

you have to adjust some things:

Yea, @tacovaIk, you might have to scale the UI in scale instead of offset and use some UIAspectRatioConstraints.

That’s another thing. Mobile players seem to start in portrait mode for some reason.

I see what you mean. I’m definitely eager to advertise my game, but I do see why I should wait. I hadn’t really thought about just working on my game and trying to accumulate a small playerbase naturally before I start spending on ads.

Also, I was a huge fan of Muffin Defense when it came out lol. Sucks that updates eventually broke it.

StarterGui ScreenOrientation, set to LandscapeSensor not Sensor.

I made a post about it: ScreenOrientation - for Phone Players (for a better playing experience)

I spammed a bunch of blocks with and autoclicker, didn’t lag the game out or anything, good job with that. But deleting is a lot slower. Maybe add a clear plot button? Well, you can just click on an empty slot to clear.

You can place blocks on the edge of the plot. It would also be cool if you could add a togglable Show Grid button.

Is the UI original? The UI also stretches when the window is stretched. Change the Size Constraint to X, X or Y, Y. Set a theme for the game and your UI. I would go for a pixel-arcade styled UI.

Other than that, great potential and it’s fun!

Hello!

Yes, you have a lots of ways to make money on roblox. I have advice for you : create a group ! Roblox does not apply taxes for the creator who buys a group.

Different ways to make money with your game:
→ turn your game in paying access (but you have to offer an amazing game if you want it to work)
→ create gamepasses
→ create developer products

Roblox offers a default prenium payement system who can bring you robux.

I hope I could advise you

Yes it can. Just add a donation board. If you don’t know how, here how I learned:
