Can we reduce the severity of rule 16?

The day there is drama about someone posting a picture of a cat from lounge is the day I lose my little faith in humanity :frowning:

Iā€™m sure the rule is not that strict and has some exceptions, but just to be safe, avoid taking screenshots of posts in private categories or just leaking in general.

Share urls to the posts instead :))

Please stop with this cat analogy, and please stop trying to defend harmful behaviour.

Leaking itself is harm no matter what, and is unacceptable. If we canā€™t trust people not to leak stuff thatā€™s clearly marked as private; then they canā€™t be trusted with actual sensitive information on the forum.

My point from the analogy, is some information in no way is actually relevant to being in a private catagory, such as a google image of a cat. in addition to not actually being able to result in harm if we are being realistic.

Thereā€™s content from Lounge Iā€™m not sure people would want leaked, such as this topic and this. I canā€™t speak for the people who posted there, but Iā€™m sure Iā€™d want that information safe from potentially malicious users if I was the one who posted it.

I havenā€™t been there long enough to have even seen those posts, however yes I fully support your reasoning behind those posts. However if we were to give the example of a forum game, for example fortunately unfortunately. I donā€™t see the harm.

Hence why I was asking for there to be separate categories in the rules for malicious and non malicious content.t

The spirit of the rules is what matters here, not petty nonsense such as sharing cat pictures.

Im just wondering if the rules are followed to the letter or if they are enforced with reason?

if what rail works said is accurate then I retract my request.

Typically enforced with reason. Itā€™s unlikely youā€™ll get in trouble for sharing a contextless picture of a cat. That said though, use your common sense.

In that case I retract my request, using common sense i think is a fair way for the rules to be enforced, since my only concern was they were followed to the letter in which case I would consider them absurd.

Just to make sure Iā€™m clear, continuing with the cat analogy, you should consider whether or not the person posting would care if you shared the image. E.g. the picture of their cat has personally identifying imagery in the background or something.

Maybe use common sense with a bit of caution and reasoning.

In relation to a point bought up earlier, if we are the OP of the post / we get permission from the OP is it then explicitly acceptable to share anything we have made / have permission to share?

I donā€™t think the sole permission of the OP is fair, I think that everyone involved in the discussion would have to give permission. Regardless, the rules donā€™t specify it being allowed at all, so Iā€™d play it safe and just not leak anything.

Specifically I was talking about the posts made explicitly by the OP, not the entire discussion.

Generally, you should refrain from sharing anything at all to users not privy to that section of the forum. People know that you are not allowed to share private sections of the forum and in most cases you will get dogpiled in third-party communities for doing so regardless of if you have permission.

But, again, this is a matter of common sense. If you have permission from OP and their post does not reveal or imply private information or details, or involve the contributions of other users, it probably wont come back to bite you. Given the firm wording of this rule though, you can infer that we really donā€™t want you to share things since information can leak in many different ways; to be absolutely sure you wonā€™t get in trouble, you should not share anything.

Honestly, it should be against the rules but it shouldnā€™t be an automatic 3 strikes. That is way to extreme for leaking something in #help-and-feedback:cool-creations or even #lounge. Another possible punishment could be being demoted from Regular to Member.

As railworks and pezsmistic bought up, the rule is mostly common sense in the way it is enforced, which I believe is fair enough. Basically if you donā€™t cause any harm by posting / have permission to post from the poster / you know what I mean then you most likely wonā€™t be ruled against, and as rail works said.

I do agree, I really would like to see the lounge content as it sounds so cool! Unfortunately being a Member I canā€™t, Reposting images of cats from the lounge should be fine, I really doubt youā€™d be banned for that.
