Cannot clear instance name in explorer, but can in properties

I’m not really sure if this is actually a bug or not, but I suddenly bumped into it.

Usually when you want to remove the name of e.g. a part in your workspace with the explorer, you just replace the name with a space (" "). However, apparently it is possible to completely remove the name of an item using properties.

When you remove an item’s name in the explorer, you get this:

image > image

Basically the old name returns.

But when you try this in the properties tab:

image > image

And the name is now actually gone.

I accidentally discovered this and was just wondering if this is an actual feature and if so, why this isn’t possible in the explorer tab.

I’ve tried this in 2 places (one team create and one own place) and it works in both games exactly as described above.

I’m not really sure since when this is going because as I said, I found it out by coincidence.

My OS:
Windows 10 home (desktop)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-core processor
GPU: Radeon ™ RX 480 Graphics

It works this way intentionally because it’s better UX.

If you press enter with an empty string in the name field it was almost certainly a mistake: as far as I know there’s no use case for giving instances an empty name. Thus it giving you back the old name is better behavior than making the name an empty string.

Do you have a use case in mind for clearing the name completely?

No I don’t, but as I said I found it out by coincidence and was just wondering if it was intentional.
Maybe for parts that you don’t really need for any scripting, to clear the workspace up a little.
