Cannot insert asset. Permission problem

Ran into this problem today. I uploaded some meshes with the asset manager. After doing that, selected the mesh and tried to insert using Insert Asset>Insert at asset position i run into this error - '‘Failed to insert assets. The asset owner must grant permissions to the asset(s).’. This was working fine until yesterday. Did an update of Studio also but did not resolve the problem.

Expected behavior

The meshes should have been inserted into the experience, and shown up in the explorer area.

I’m having a similar issue after updating studio to Version 0.689.0.6890885

Having the same issue. It’s extremely bothersome, I am unable to import ANY meshparts. We need this fixed asap.

Bump, also ran into this issue. Very annoying since I don’t like 3d importer but it looks like we have to cope for the time being.

It’s been 24 hours now since this has been reported. I am bumping this again in hopes that it will get addressed. This is extremely bothersome and prevents me from properly developing my games.

Quite infuriating.

I believe I’m running into this issue as well! I attempted to insert a package and I’m repeatedly getting a Failed to insert assets. The asset owner must grant permissions to the asset(s) warning.

I configured the package for a group game and restarting studio doesn’t fix the issue.

I seem to have found a work around.
When you go into studio → File → New and try to insert it from asset manager it works there.
I’m personally experiencing it in a place that has collaborators in it, and it may be and issue with it.

I tried that, but it unfortunately still does not work.

I hope this isn’t a feature cuz it’s kinda impossible to fix.

Didn’t quite understand If you use New it will open a new experience in a new session.

Ok, anyways. I asked AI and it said to use the 3d importer. Found that it could do import the meshes without needing to publish the game. Excellent!.

Thing is it doesn’t align the meshes properly like the “Insert at asset position” from the asset importer does. That’s legit the only reason I use asset manager, to have the meshes be lined up precisely.

Glad you’re not on version 0.678.9

The whole permission system for assets is counterintuitive

First, there is the extremely limited access to animations, sounds, and more, which makes opening a place file from someone else very difficult,

followed by the extremely limited .glTF export of assets into Blender where not-owned assets weren’t eligible for import, breaking the export of entire scenes. You couldn’t even export Roblox-owned decals or anything from the Creator Store

and now, there is this workflow-breaking bug that causes me and many other developers to delay the import of meshes and focus on other things while a fix is on the way.

I've seen Roblox themselves not appear convinced about this system, so why not remove it entirely and only keep the necessary safeguards to prevent copyright issues and asset leaks?

Disabling the new beta feature “Revamped Asset Manager” fixed the issue for me.

Hi all @Bloxbase7 ! We are currently looking into this. A couple of questions to help us reproduce and root cause this issue:

  • Is this only occurring in group experiences / experiences that are shared with you? Or is it also occurring in experiences you own?
  • Could you provide a video showing the complete flow that causes this issue: Import via asset manager > insert from asset manager > error message
  • Is it only occurring for meshes, or do you run into the same issue with other asset types (Image, Decal, MeshPart)
  • Does the insertion only fail when using Insert at asset position?

Thank you all for your help!
