Cannot publish any place

I have literally no information about this bug.
I am unable to publish places - it just logs
19:24:22.801 - Error while publishing:
19:24:22.815 -
to the console and comes up with a blank error box. I’ve tried uninstalling studio, uninstalling both studio and Roblox and then deleting my entire local Roblox folder - nothing seems to work. Here’s a video of it happening: Watch y roblocc | Streamable

Anyone’s guess is as good as mine for this.

This has happened to me. It’s seemingly random, and can’t be reproduced using some sort of steps, although publishing again fixed it for me. Have you tried restarting your computer?

Yup

That’s interesting.

This sounds to me as if studio may have been having an internal issue connecting to roblox, as the ID you gave is actually a time increment.19:24:22.801 being 7:24:22 PM and the milliseconds would be 801. Has this been an issue for a while for you?

801 is the milliseconds of the time the message was logged to console

Just tried publishing from a VM (hosted on the same computer having the trouble w/ publishing) and it published with no issue.

Think it’s the OP’s internet connection? Would explain the apparent issue connecting for the publication on is end.

Thanks to @bunny_hop, I’ve just sorted this problem out.

Anyone who has a similar problem:
Go to your hosts file and remove the line of

127.0.0.1 data.roblox.com

(if you don’t have that, then you may have a different problem so idk)

why would that be in the hosts file in the first place?

I can’t find the thread anymore, but someone made one on how to stop Roblox data collection for privacy reasons/etc, and it was suggested on that thread to add data.roblox.com to the hosts file.

To prevent tracking of local information

I’m a little derp on the solution here but where specifically is this found? This is the second time I’ve gotten this error this year (first time it went away by itself) and now nothing’s working when I attempt to publish a place.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
in a file called “hosts”
