Cannot turn on chat via privacy settings

Hello,

Randomly, about a half an hour ago, I recieved this unexpected message explaining that I’d have to turn on a specific toggle in my privacy settings to chat with friends. I’d never messed with this toggle, but nonetheless I turned it off and back on again to see if this would fix the issue.

I’ve been trying this for the past 10 minutes, waiting in two to three minute intervals turning this setting off and on again attempting to fix my chat, but to no avail. My account is 13+ and I’ve never experienced this issue before. I’m hoping other people are experiencing this issue or something similar as I’ve never touched my account settings and it seems to be stuck.

I’ve tried to fix this via the mobile and desktop app too, but nothing has seemed to work yet so I finally decided to make a bug post explaining my issue. If anyone is wondering, I can chat in experiences just fine, It’s only the website chat.

For chatting on web with friends, you should use the Party settings rather than the settings for Experience chat.

I have both of these settings enabled for friends but this doesn’t fix the issue.

Thank you for the report, we are digging in.

I can reproduce this as well. In addition, the chat button is not visible for my friends’ profiles even if they are over the age of 13 and/or had chat turned on prior to today.

I have the same issue aswell. Even with enabling and re-enabling all of the settings, the message wouldn’t go away.

Im guessing this has something to do with roblox shutting down a few hours ago?

same issue, maybe the recent outage is related?

Thanks for filing this. The entire web chat feature is broken right now.

Hi everyone, thank you for your patience. Our teams are actively working on mitigating this issue.

In the meantime, please try this workaround:

  1. Go to Party Communication in settings
  2. Change the setting from Friends to No One, then back to Friends

If you’re using the app:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Privacy & Content Maturity
  3. Select Party
  4. Change the setting from Friends to No One, then back to Friends

Thanks for this—can confirm it works. Hope to see a more permanent fix rolled out for those who don’t have access to this thread soon :slightly_smiling_face:
