Can't Follow Friends Into Game: Error 429

I tried following my friend (into a VIP server) via the “People” search page. I got the following message ingame:

I tried joining and it was stuck spinning the roblox logo for 5 minutes, so I closed the client and tried to rejoin. That is when I began experiencing this.

I have also been getting this error when following friends.
