Car Design - Feedback

Hello!

This is my first ever mesh that I’ve made to import into roblox. Please give feedback on the design aspect

Please do not be afraid to give strong comments.

Edit:
The whole car is about 5,600 polygons, so I guess there’s a large room for improvement ?

For a first mesh, really good start.
What I can say though is that I think it lacks detail for the rear and frontal bumper area. You’re probably going for a futuristic design from what I can see which could explain there’s no air intakes. I would personally prefer more design in those areas.

A rear diffuser like this would be nice, showing the vehicle has some down-force which shows it’s a sports car.

But I rate this, good job.

If there is no air intakes, it’s probably a futuristic look to look into the future. :eyes:

For your first mesh extremely good job.

First Improvement: Details

What this mesh lacks is details, for starters textures would be good as your current design seems bland. Cars are never just one colour all the way around.

Second Improvement: Less Wide

image
The front of this mesh seems too wide an unnatural for a car so perhaps making it thinner would help (not sure if this was just the how the image was taken or the design itself)

Third Improvement: Higher from the Ground

image )
The car rear also seems to be a bit too close to the ground. Perhaps raising it to be more realistic would improve the mesh.

Final Improvement: Wheels

image
Although I recognise the wheels are not part of the mesh more effort could be put into positioning them and sizing them to look realistic (as well as textures eventually)

Solutions

To improve I recommend adding more detail and textures to your design, and also reference it based on images as that can often help:2018_audi_r8_angularfront
This is similar to your design and sometimes it’s easier to reference based on real life examples.

I know it sounds like I am being really critical but just want to help you improve.

Hello @wevetments,

As a builder myself, I will give you criticism on that build, but it does look amazing!

Review:
Improvements:

  • Add a front light, so when you are driving you can see the road ahead-
  • Add more detail on top of that mesh such as the back exhaust, car plate, car model(if it has one), and just more detail in the front with factors shown here-
  • Add an inside section as well

Tick lists:

  • Great lighting put on the car alreaady
  • Great car exterior mesh

Feedback:
Put a little more dedication, and time into this masterpiece.

Final thoughts:
Read the comments above me, and look up some car pictures to see the actual details you have to put in.

Little note:
Good job! Keep up the good work!

There’s a lot of things you could definitely improve on with this vehicle.
I will be referring to a late 2000s Mitsubishi Eclipse (i.e. compact sports car), as that is what your vehicle looks closest to in terms of scale and purpose.

Wheelbase
Your wheels feel way too far apart. Here’s a little tip - there’s a general rule of thumb you can apply to most vehicles when creating them. Let’s try the Eclipse:

Notice how between the axles, there’s almost 3 wheels worth of width. This is important - many vehicles in the same size or style will naturally have almost the same wheelbases. As a rule of thumb, three wheels worth of space is about as far as you want to go. Now, let’s compare this to your car:

It looks about right, though perspective is an issue here. I’m inclined to say that maybe it’s a little bit too long.

Overhangs
The rear and front of your vehicle don’t have enough overhang. The front of your vehicle also has an incredibly strong downwards rake. Soften this rake and add overhangs to your vehicle. Let’s return to the Eclipse and see how much overhang the vehicle has, based on wheels.

While you can make overhangs shorter or longer based on how you want to stylize your vehicle, if you make them too stubby, the vehicle feels off-balance. Try giving the vehicle more of an overhang on both sides - extend out the rear, maybe pull the rear wheels forwards just a little.

Tiny front windows
Remove these and fill them in. Modern vehicles tend to use this spot for extra structural reinforcement, especially for rollover protection and to stiffen up a potential crumple zone.
