Celeste 2 Patch Notes 8/01/2021

Brand New Gun System
Courtesy of frogtritonix, we will be using a brand new gun system to be used at Celeste 2 and all of our future places! These scripts have been applied to the gun models infamously used in “The Blackout of Celeste,” our first ever primary fort released last Summer where it was decommissioned shortly thereafter.

In summary, we now have the following guns/models at our disposal -

  • Maelstrom - auto rifle (similar to the Storm)
  • Icarus - pistol (similar to the Rogue)
  • Fusillade - burst rifle
  • Epiphany - sniper rifle
  • Reverb - sub-machine gun
  • Havoc - shotgun

With these new guns, we can - get this - finally press “C” to crouch! Also, for the Epiphany, pressing “Q” will increase your FoV slightly so that it is easier to take aim at enemies.

At Celeste 2, the primary and secondary “Storm” and “Rogue” have been replaced with the “Maelstrom” and “Icarus,” respectively. They will share roughly the same stats as their predecessors (although Maelstrom has a mag capacity of 30 instead of 28), though balancing can and will occur where necessary.

Lastly, we also have new medigun scripts, which I have edited based on a recent poll in our Discord server to allow for a non-aimlock variant to these guns for Celeste 2 specifically. Future places that will be developed may end up using the aimlock mediguns instead.

All other guns may or may not make an appearance in Celeste 2 (as rotated special weapons), though you can expect the full loadout to be available in future dev projects.

New Special Weapon: The Fusillade
Because we have made away with the old gun system, the ‘broken’ Crescent weapon has been removed from the middle of the map. In its place, we will experiment with the new Fusillade weapon. Here are a few details on this gun’s statistics:

  • Damage: 12
  • Rays per shot: 3
  • Mag Capacity: 21

The purpose of introducing the Fusillade isn’t only because the Crescent is in need of a replacement, but given the nature of the gun (burst weapon), I personally believe this will be really tricky to balance so putting it in-game to use during defenses and having you guys share suggestions and feedback will be pivotal to ensuring the viability of this weapon for future projects.

Gun Skins
In the past, if as a high-rank/member of a division you had unlocked a gun skin, the gun skin had a weight assigned to it, meaning if, for example, you were both an Admiral and a member of the Immortals division, you would spawn with the Admiral gun skin and would not be able to switch between either skin. Given the new gun system, I figured I would try to remedy this with revamping how gun skins work.

  • You can select both a color and a material for your gun; selecting either-or will automatically update how all of your guns in your backpack look, and upon respawning the skin combination will be applied to your guns automatically.
  • Rank/Division Skins will only be selectable if you’ve unlocked them; each of these skins has both a color and a material attached to them, so selecting one of these skins will override any current selection you might have.

All gun skin combinations (barring Rank/Division Skins) will be free for anyone to experiment with for the next week or so. In the future, they are likely to be locked behind a paywall, so be sure to experiment with them while you have the opportunity to do it for free!

Misc. Updates

  • Changing your gun cursor will no longer respawn you (i.e. will update right away)
  • Custom gun cursors no longer have a hitmarker gui
  • The GUIs have been slightly modified/re-designed
  • You can no longer press F to sprint without holding onto a gun; shooting your gun will stop you from sprinting (unless it is a medigun), and unequipping any gun will also stop you from sprinting
