Certain Distance Free Cam can go

Using the default roblox freecam. I want it to have a certain distance limit it can go away from the player, like if the certain distance if 50 studs. Then if the camera is 50 studs far, it couldn’t go anymore and will just be trapped by something unless it decides to go back.

Are you wanting the freecam to restrict itself from moving?

I don’t know how your script works but you can enable the “freecam” while (camera.cframe.p - player.character.primarypart.position).magnitude <= 50

You don’t need to modify the default camera to achieve this. You just need to set the player’s “CameraMinZoomDistance”.

local players = game:GetService("Players")
local player = players.LocalPlayer
player.CameraMaxZoomDistance = 50

Local script inside StarterPlayerScripts.

Are you sure you want Free Cam to have a certain distance limit? Or do you want the default camera to have a certain distance limit? Free Cam is a different type of camera (you press Shift + P to enable it), and it would be difficult to modify it.

No, I want FREE CAM to have a certain distance. Free Cam as in Shift + P for game owners.

No, Free Cam only activates when Shift + P is pressed. and evertime its toggled off the camera is back to normal, I just want to give it a certain distance free cam can go.

You can find the default free cam script when you test the game and go to GUI. and look for “FreeCam” screengui, the script is in there

Sorry to bump after 4 months, but if you still need this, and for everyone else looking to make this in the future, Ive managed to achieve this by adding few lines of code to StepFreecam function:

local function StepFreecam(dt)
	local vel = velSpring:Update(dt, Input.Vel(dt))
	local pan = panSpring:Update(dt, Input.Pan(dt))
	local fov = fovSpring:Update(dt, Input.Fov(dt))

	local zoomFactor = sqrt(tan(rad(70/2))/tan(rad(cameraFov/2)))

	cameraFov = clamp(cameraFov + fov*FOV_GAIN*(dt/zoomFactor), 1, 120)
	cameraRot = cameraRot + pan*PAN_GAIN*(dt/zoomFactor)
	cameraRot = Vector2.new(clamp(cameraRot.x, -PITCH_LIMIT, PITCH_LIMIT), cameraRot.y%(2*pi))

	local cameraCFrame = CFrame.new(cameraPos)*CFrame.fromOrientation(cameraRot.x, cameraRot.y, 0)*CFrame.new(vel*NAV_GAIN*dt)

	local dir = (cameraCFrame.p - LocalPlayer.Character.HumanoidRootPart.Position)

	cameraCFrame = (cameraCFrame-cameraCFrame.p)+LocalPlayer.Character.HumanoidRootPart.Position+dir.Unit*math.min(dir.Magnitude,50)
	cameraPos = cameraCFrame.p

	Camera.CFrame = cameraCFrame
	Camera.Focus = cameraCFrame*CFrame.new(0, 0, -GetFocusDistance(cameraCFrame))
	Camera.FieldOfView = cameraFov
end

I’ll test this out later. I’m kinda busy right now

Ok so I forgot about this for like a while because I was working on something. But yeah this works and to change the distance I just change the 50 inside. Thank you so much for this

Hey, I know this probably wont get a reply but, what’s the GetFocusDistance function?

It simply returns the distance from camera to the point in space we are looking at.
By default camera.Focus is set to the player’s character, but when we change into freecam we want the focus to be at what camera is looking at, so we have to set it every frame. GetFocusDistace gives us that distance so we just use it to set the focus to whatever we are looking at.

In the newer FreecamScript they seem to have removed that function though, so you can just set the Camera.Focus to the same thing as Camera.CFrame.

I wasn’t expecting a super quick reply, but thank you very much!
