It’s easy: Roblox isn’t doing it because they want to, they’re doing it because they have to. But they don’t have to do it outside of the EU, because that’s different jurisdictions.
You’re assuming that there are no costs attached to this. There probably are.
The right direction, the wrong signal.
As everyone else said, if you truly “prioritize safety” and “respect privacy”, why wouldn’t you respect privacy rights where it’s not obligated by law?
This isn’t just about the DMA, it is a bigger problem in Roblox. Also when requesting what information you know about me, I had to verify that I’m an EU/Canada citizen…
However, as buildthomas mentioned earlier, GDPR requests can be operationally expensive.
Transparency, on the other side, is no luxury. I’m glad we’ll be able to tell which actions are automated and which actions aren’t.
Hahaha, yeah Roblox is a charity! They totally didn’t calculate the risk vs reward factor with the idea that most developers struggle to even make a bare minimum living when that’s their focus. They would not have done if it wasn’t for their benefit, they’re a publicly traded company.
Okay, I get it. You’ll try being transparent about ads, the recommended feed and moderation all over the world.
But…
Don’t you think this isn’t fair to those outside of the EU who have a 1 month duration?
I think it would be better to make 6 months global. Especially considering the commomly experienced possibility that a semi-active user gets banned during a duration that they haven’t logged on for a while.
That 6 month buff just seems like a perk to being an EU citizen to me. Man, now how I more wish I was an EU citizen!
No! This is the first I’m hearing of Roblox being a publicly traded and for profit corporation!
I just don’t go on announcement posts and express my disgust with a company “announcing” that they’re complying with a legal requirement. I instead try to prompt people to think critically about it and express my discontent politely. As is tradition.
Roblox sucks
for making several edits to this, but still not making the decision to make this change global.
Please tell me in reading this wrong… but does that mean every moderation will be public? I honestly cannot tell, can someone explain this to me? (preferrably like if i was a 5 year old)
Not sure how that’s related looking back at the previous thread, it doesn’t really do anything stopping little Timmy seeing expletives.
The only thing related is that moderation history will be more easily accessible.
I didn’t even realise Roblox was a gatekeeper or am I thinking of the wrong law?
So sorry for ruining it for you
You aren’t doing yourselves any favors by ignoring the community and being stubborn. Make the changes global, like everyone’s asking you to. Listen to the community.
Edit, I’m a moron lmao
I think roblox knows about their stock price dropping, but its actually on the rise as of now lol
Do not take my word as factual as the below answer is what I have deduced based on my research.
Beginning on the 17th of February, Roblox will upload moderation actions to the following database.
Since Roblox hasn’t uploaded anything to the database yet. I have looked at the moderation action of platforms that are similar to Roblox. From the list of platforms, available, I have chosen Tiktok.
Here’s what a moderation action by TikTok looks like:
The blue text on the left categorizes what type of information is displayed by black text on the right. I have looked through other moderation actions of platforms such as YouTube and X and they all follow the same template. I think it’s safe to say that a moderation action uploaded by Roblox will also look like the image above.
To answer your question about whether all moderation actions will be uploaded: I think they will. Other platforms like TikTok have already uploaded so many moderation actions that I’m having a hard time believing it’s only a select amount of the total. Why? well, TikTok has uploaded more than 10000 actions in mere days. That seems about right for a platform as large as they are. You can expect the same from Roblox.
thanks for this, the wording was a little vague so i didn’t really know what they were getting at. It’d be interesting to see how this plays out, especially when big name youtubers/controversial figures get banned and the ban reason isn’t stated publicly (by the figures in question).
An expletive is hardly illegal.
I obviously don’t feel like Roblox warning me here for swearing, but it is not illegal.
Illegal content is mainly disgusting content which I am not going to mention.
The new DSA rights will be afforded to 27.4 Million Roblox Users. This information is provided by Roblox here. With courtesy provided by Article 24 (2), the DSA imposes.
The Daily Active Users (DAU’s) the Digital Service Acts do not protect are those users not located in the European Union (obviously). To get that number, I have added up all DAU’s from every region other than Europe and came at 51.3 million users.
You can find my source here, specifically, page 22 the statistic on the left. Or see the image below:
To conclude: I think it’s very fair to say that there will be a cost for Roblox to afford DSA rights for an additional 51.3 million users. What the exact amount of cost is, is hard to determine as you’d need internal documentation to get that number. Something I do not have access to. You’re welcome to continue speculating though.
I like tradition. I’m a big supporter of going back to the days of old which I consider superior in many ways compared to present Roblox. It probably isn’t lost on you that Roblox continues removing and distancing itself from its past.
I say if Roblox neglects users’ opinions. They can expect harsh criticism. Where it hurts the most for their PR is on public posts like these. Screw the politeness tradition and let’s all display more direct & harsher criticism.
All well and good for you to post harsh criticism and rants about Roblox. I have a larger influence than you might expect, and I have bridges I could burn. They might not just affect me, but my employer or the organization I help run. It isn’t worth getting into a tizzy over every thing that happens. Digital rights laws aren’t going to change because I got mad at Roblox under an announcement post.
Roblox has changed dramatically in the last 14 years. That’s not a surprise. They’ve been punished by… being wildly successful and profitable. There is no incentive to change no matter how much we rattle chains under their announcements.
There is always additional cost. Either in terms of processing/logging effort or in terms of occupying human agent time, or otherwise depreciating some information/metrics about the user that is used to improve discovery/monetization. There is no free lunch.
Let’s hope Roblox improves this further so they can release it to everyone in the future, either by making the tech more efficient or deciding in a future quarter they can now afford this investment to reap the rewards (better privacy for all).
you could add this feature in worldwide, bcz im south american, and its bad if a person gets banned outside of europe, it will continue banned if the moderation was 1 month ago!
