Chrome UI Unibar, can't close Chat Window through ESC Menu. Critical for first person games with no free roam mouse

Description

In the event of a game putting you into the first person view, without the ability to free move your mouse. Your only opportunity to move your mouse around, is to click the ESC Button.

The ESC Button will make the Roblox Menu appear, where you will be able to move the mouse and change Settings and etc.

One thing is that you can access the Chat Button. However, for some reason, you can click on it, to open the Chat, but it doesn’t offer you the ability to close it.

Sorry, I had to record it on a lower bitrate for more framerate’d output

And because of that you can’t close it. Nor can I move my mouse because again the situation is about when you’re put into first person.

You need FFlagEnableInGameMenuChrome set to true.

This enables the new Chrome UI. The AB-Testing Flag was recently disabled, eventually for updates or etc. However, I enabled it back, because I was missing the Chrome UI. The Chrome UI was the only thing that would get rid of the Microphone Button above a character and position it somewhere else, which finally would act as a workaround and solution from mistakly enabling the Mic.

Re-production Steps

I’ve tested it on https://www.roblox.com/games/12411473842/Pressure (I don’t own the game)

You don’t need first person to replicate the issue. All you need to do is to go in-game with the Chrome UI enabled.

  1. Go to ESC Menu
  2. Try to close the chat by clicking on the chat icon.
  3. Observe

Expected Result

I expected to open and close the chat. I don’t think the old one had that issue.

Actual Result

I am only able to open it and not close it, through the ESC Menu. Chat covers a part of the screen.

The other thing is that if your chat icon was “white”, it will turn to black when in the ESC Menu, even though your chat still open.

Thanks!

For reference I found a few more fullscreen related issues regarding Roblox’s WIP new UI that can be compared to this issue, but since they were WIP they might get changed later. However, it could be that Roblox will not notice it, hence why I wanted to bring it up anyways.

Very slight corner cases, e.g. there was some screen popup that one can click on, but one can’t click on it if one is in fullscreen. It would tell you about learning the controls of the experience :person_shrugging:
