Clarification on code flagged for safety review

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS MY OWN OPINION

I was talking to a friend about this earlier. I concluded that this post was made by the ROBLOX account because it is more faceless. This post has been taken under extreme scrutiny and I think they did a good job choosing to upload it by the ROBLOX account. I would hate to see a staff member get bullied because of this.

Yeah that is fair. I just find it very hard to comprehend that even after 1000 replies we haven’t got any updates by staff.

I don’t really mind this but I don’t really trust anyone to look at my code even if its moderation. For example if a moderator found something unusual or wrong in Jailbreak’s code and they look into it to see whats going on but what if the moderator decides to go on other scripts that they weren’t supposed to look at? Also I have personal scripts that I don’t want anyone seeing because if moderators ever go into my game they can do what ever they want because my code got moderated.

Edit: I think this is alot worse than I thought it was.

Why would roblox wants to ban a person for a code that no other except the developer will see
What’s the problem with code, is it open source for kids to look at. Are you protecting the kids from using exploit engine to take a game and look at the code but it contains inappropriate content
I would agree I can be banned if I print or make a visible inappropriate words in the game
But the code is mine, no other can look at it and no one pulls inappropriate content to their game to get punished so why would you protect a thing that no players would ever see

What’s going to be next? Ban people for having an inappropriate password for their account?

I would probably guess that the next thing they’d do is terminate you for what you have in every single folder on your hard drive, but that’s too realistic for anyone’s liking. In all seriousness, yes, it is a shame that people are being terminated just because of what is in a script that isn’t even publicly availible.

Impossible. When accounts are created, they hash your passwords using SHA256.

I made a poll of my own. Look at these results…

Link to Poll:

The dark blue = no moderation at all, slightly less dark blue = no moderation unless released as a free model or something

This’s very disheartening and hurtful towards those who are developers and not. Some of us have been on this platform for years, and to see confirmation of this just makes us have less faith, feel scared, angry, and most of all, betrayed. (I imagine that’s what everyone’s feeling right now.) You guys betrayed the very community you’ve built over these past two decades, and the lack of communication since the time of this post doesn’t help either.

Edit:
Imagine a friend you’ve known for the past decade(s)/year(s) just ups and says that he’s been inspecting everything you do for the past while, and is going to continue to do so. That’s what’s going on right now.

Let’s be real, they’ve taken away a lot from us in the past 2 decades, but them taking away our privacy, something that we all hold near and dear to us, is more than what what else was taken away from us.

I think it is too extreme to attack ROBLOX for not accepting a “Make Everything. It’s Your Game” slogan in its entirety.

Obviously they have to do moderation still. They can’t just let people upload 18+ content to the site and have no repercussion.

I support ROBLOX adding moderation, but the way they have gone about it is wrong. Automatic filtering of code is an awful idea for many, many reasons that have been noted hundreds of times.

I respect the transparency but this is so stupid, waste of resources that would be put into improving the moderation system / team.

Also “specially-trained team” lol what?

I don’t think people should be making games with profanity and vulgarity in the actual game itself, but using colorful language or offsite links in the code shouldn’t just be the developer’s choice - it may be necessary. Imagine if you’ve got a web link to an informational resource or web API that has a bad word in it. You can’t just change those API keys… they’re locked in to stay or people are losing data. not only that, but learning resources need to be linked to off the site. Technically, this would be a violation of the TOS if found elsewhere on the website, but historically code has been exempt from that. Now, this functionality is being challenged.

Except this is not transparency. Transparency would be them giving us a heads-up beforehand. They’re months late to this.

This is a headups, they aren’t adding it ASAP.

edit: nvm im stupid they been doing this for months

No. If you read the OP it will say they’ve had this for months.

The fact that this post is nearing 1000 replies in 4 days is big. You either know an update is good or bad when it gets that many messages in under a week. I’m just watching the replies come in as this post exists.

According to the post, they’ve been doing this for a while now prior to the post.

They’re only just now informing us of this.

Can you share the link to where they’re not adding it?

I’ve always assumed that my code might get read by Roblox Employees at any time. I’m not upset about this at all. They have a great responsibility to keep the platform safe for younger players and having the capability to monitor all the code running on the platform is essential. I completely trust Roblox not to ‘steal’ any code or do anything with it. Monitoring suspicious code is not malicious and I’m not against it.
