Clarify DD rules during Post Creation

Currently the default new topic text for Development Discussion is too broad and has led to the repeated misuse of said category. It is a necessity to better clarify the rules with Discussion topics to minify junk and promote healthy discussion.

An updated version of the default category should go somewhere along the lines of:

This category should only be used for open discussions about Roblox Development!

Please use #help-and-feedback:game-design-support for questions about implementing specific game features.

If you are under-ranked and want to file a bug report or make a feature request, message @Bug-Support or [@]DevEngagementTeam with the correct topic format.

Please don’t use this category for feedback about recent updates or changes! Instead, reply to their respective announcement topics.

Refrain from making junk posts that do not contribute to developers. Topics similar to “What’s your favorite drink when developing?” won’t do! Topics should be clear and concise, otherwise they will be unlisted.

Furthermore, a popup screen should also be displayed notifying the user to read the category’s rules before continuing, something similar to:

(Forgive my bad attempt at mimicking a Discourse prompt)

If this could be addressed, I believe a huge number of Development Discussion topics would become more constructive in the future.

PS: I used [@]DevEngagementTeam because I didn’t want to notify everyone in that group. In the full text it would not have the brackets.
PPS: Yes, I am also aware that incapaz made a similar request a year ago, but it seems to have been locked so I decided to make a new one.

Your new replacement text seems great, except for that last part which is kind of an exaggeration.

And This thing is, most of the time, people decide to create a topic in Development Discussion because they can’t find any other category that would be appropriate to post it in.

An example would be someone creating a topic asking why their robux hasn’t finished pending.

The suggestion I have to solve this issue is to create a new subcategory for #help-and-feedback, called something like “platform-support”

It would most likely take care of all the topics like the example I provided above, since people now have a place to create topics for their questions.

In fact, I believe @FxllenCode created a Forum Feature Post for this a while back.

I hope this is useful for you :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, thanks for the suggestion! We’ve updated the topic template to give a brief summary / overview of the category guidelines.
